Because all wars in the twenty-first century are potentially global wars, the centenary of the first global war is the occasion for reflection. Valerie Coghlan, Church of Ireland College of Education, Dublin, is a librarian and lecturer. She is a former co-editor of Bookbird: An International Journal of Children's Literature.
