The different perspectives provided by the book’s authors offer numerous insights, examples, and approaches for understanding historical controversy to provide a practical gold mine for scholars and practitioners. The book provides case studies of history textbook controversies ranging from treatments of the Nanjing Massacre to a comparative treatment of Japanese occupation in Vietnamese and Singaporean textbooks to the differences in history textbooks published by secular and Hindu nationalist governments in India. It also offers a range of approaches for teaching historical controversy in classrooms. These include Structured Academic Controversy, the use of Japanese manga, teaching controversy through case studies, student facilitated discussion processes, and discipline-based approaches that can be used in history classrooms. The book’s chapters will help educational researchers and curricularists consider new approaches for curriculum design, curriculum study, and classroom research.

Australia S Doomed Race Protective Myth written by Grant Rodwell and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-12-27 with History categories.
Periodically, in Australian society racial chasms emerge portraying the great divide between Indigenous and non‐Indigenous Australians, exposing the sustained influence of the doomed‐race protective myth and its residue. This book exposes that a long and powerful influence on Australian society, economy, culture, and history has been the doomed‐race protective myth. While most nations harbour protective myths of one form or another, often endorsed by Australian governments at all levels and steeped in a cruel racism and, inter alia, a quest for pastoral lands, Australia’s doomed‐race protective myth has asserted an undue influence on First Nations people. This book argues the doomed race protective myth warped the vision of power elites, politicians, and bureaucrats. For centuries, sustained by representations in official and public history, schools, churches, and a whole host of public institutions, the doomed‐race protective myth has been voiced by almost every facet of non‐Indigenous Australian society, with pastoral Australia particularly benefiting. This book opens fresh vistas to the continuing racism in Australian society through an examination of the long‐politicised doomed‐race protective myth which was foisted on First Nations people, and with vested interests in pastoral Australia. Key events in Australia’s race‐relations history such as the 2023 First Nations Voice to Parliament Referendum have new light shed on them. Transnational themes relevant to Indigenous history have been examined. People with an interest in non‐Indigenous‐Indigenous affairs, academics, politicians and bureaucrats, and students will enjoy this book.

An Introduction To Civics And Citizenship Education written by Keith Heggart and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-08-01 with Education categories.
This book serves as a starting point for pre-service teachers and researchers by providing a concise and thorough summary of key themes within the field of civics and citizenship education. The field of civics and citizenship education is both complex and contested in local and international jurisdictions. It is also a key site for political and policy interventions by governments and other interested parties. While this activity makes the field a vibrant one, it also means that it can be challenging for teachers and researchers to enter and understand the ongoing debates and discussions and the implications these present for their research and educational practice. The book begins with a detailed examination of the history of civics and citizenship education from a variety of perspectives and in different locations. It recognizes and documents how the place and importance of civics and citizenship education has changed over the last century and how this has been realized in various educational initiatives. It also examines the current state of educational and policy-level initiatives in civics and citizenship education, noting the differences between different state and country approaches. This book also undertakes a detailed consideration of the different typologies of civics and citizenship education that have been formulated by various researchers, including notions like justice-oriented citizenship, activist citizenship, and critical citizenship. It examines the theoretical foundations of both active citizenship education and global citizenship education and how these have been enacted in school settings. Furthermore, it examines the place of citizenship in higher education institutions and non-formal educational settings, including practices and statements about the importance of developing global citizenship in these arenas. It also presents a number of different case studies showcasing the variety of approaches to civics and citizenship education and discusses the opportunities and challenges educators and researchers face when researching and implementing it.

A Critical History Of Health Sport And Physical Education written by Michelle Gorzanelli and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-07-01 with Education categories.
This book fills a gap in literature by generating a combined history of Physical Education (PE), School Sport (SS) and Health Education (HE) in New South Wales (NSW) public schools from 1880 to 2024. It includes broad discussions on how political issues such as the World Wars influenced (i) the PE curriculum, which was used as a medium to prepare a ‘fit’ army, (ii) the school sport system, which acted as an expression of national strength via showcasing sporting prowess on the international stages of the Olympic Games, and (iii) the health education curriculum, which addressed infectious diseases resulting from poor hygiene associated with poverty. The book also adopts a socio-cultural perspective to the constructs of PE, SS, and HE curricula and highlights significant local, national, and international historical events and issues as factors driving curriculum developments and paradigm shifts in these subjects in the NSW public education and beyond. It brings new and engendering socio-historical findings to the discipline fields of PE, SS, and HE, combined with an innovative methodology in critical historiographical studies.

Knowledge Creativity And Failure written by Chris Hay and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-17 with Education categories.
This book offers a new framework for the analysis of teaching and learning in the creative arts. It provides teachers with a vocabulary to describe what they teach and how they do this within the creative arts. Teaching and learning in this field, with its focus on the personal characteristics of the student and its insistence on intangible qualities like talent and creativity, has long resisted traditional models of pedagogy. In the brave new world of high-stakes assessment and examination-driven outcomes across the education system, this resistance has proven to be a severe weakness and driven creative arts teachers further into the margins. Instead of accepting this relegation teachers of creative arts must set out to capture the distinctiveness of their pedagogy. This book will allow teachers to transcend the opaque metaphors that proliferate in the creative arts, and instead to argue for the robustness and rigour of their practice.
