Sons of Assumption explores the rich history of Assumption High School, then later Assumption Prep, which prepared boys for the priesthood for almost sixty-five years before closing in 1970. With classes taught in French, it was not uncommon for Canadian and French families to entrust the school to turn their sons into godly men. In their own words, the graduates describe their feelings of homesickness, struggles with discipline, and how their experiences allowed them to succeed in their careers. The author doesn't just provide a careful retelling of the graduates' experiences, she also delves into the history of Worcester, Massachusetts, and how the school's buildings that its alumni hold so dear have since been repurposed. As a distinctive and proud Franco-American Catholic boarding school, Assumption High offered its pupils an education that was rigorous, religious, and designed to preserve the French-Canadian language and culture that its students and their families cherished.

The Life of Sr. Marie de Mandat-Grancey and Mary's House in Ephesus tells the story of a faith-filled woman's life of service and her quest to discover the house of the Blessed Virgin in Ephesus. Sister Marie de Mandat-Grancey, a Daughter of Charity, responded to God's call and dedicated her life to find Christ, the Word made Flesh, in service to the poor. The first twenty-five years of her ministry were spent caring for the homebound, educating children, accompanying youth in their spiritual journey, and finding families for orphans. In 1886, Sister Marie was sent to Smyrna, near Ephesus, Turkey, where she entered a world very different from her own. While serving in the hospital there, Sister Marie read and shared with her own Sisters and the local Vincentian priests The Life of the Blessed Virgin, by Anne Catherine Emmerich, which recorded the events of Mary's last years spent in Ephesus in a house built for her by St. John. Because of Sister Marie's great devotion to the Blessed Mother, she was determined to find this sacred spot. Through collaboration with her Vincentian brothers, local Muslim guides, and the people of the area, Mary's house was found; but the discovery was just the beginning. Once rebuilt, Mary's house became a place where Muslims and Christians assembled in peace side by side as they came to honor Mary. The Life of Sr. Marie de Mandat-Grancey and Mary's House in Ephesus will inspire readers with the remarkable story of a faith-filled woman's life and her quest to discover the house of the Blessed Virgin in Ephesus.

Assumption written by Percival Everett and has been published by Pan Macmillan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-09-28 with Fiction categories.

In Assumption, the follow-up to the wickedly funny I Am Not Sidney Poitier, Percival Everett is in top form as he once again upends our expectations about characters, plot, race, and meaning. Ogden Walker, deputy sheriff of a small New Mexico town, is on the trail of an old woman’s murderer. But at the crime scene, his are the only footprints leading up to and away from her door. Something is amiss, and even his mother knows it. As other cases pile up, Ogden gives chase, pursuing flimsy leads for even flimsier reasons. His hunt takes him from the seamier side of Denver to a hippie commune as he seeks the puzzling solution. A wild ride to the heart of a baffling mystery, Assumption is a literary thriller like no other from the author of Erasure, now an Oscar-nominated feature film. Part of the Picador Collection, a series celebrating fifty years of Picador books and showcasing the best of modern literature.
