Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 When I was young, I had dreams of being a rock star. But after a few years of chasing that dream, I had to grow up and get a real job. The Great Recession of the 2000s altered the course of my life forever. #2 I was 26 years old and unemployed in 2009. I had a family, a mortgage, and a life in a new and unfamiliar place with no job prospects. I felt like a total failure. I was scared, frustrated, and embarrassed. #3 I decided to create an online presence, and in January 2010, I began sharing screen recordings of what I was doing in my recording software. I renamed my blog and channel The Recording Revolution because I felt it described what I was excited about as a musician and producer. #4 I was able to make money from my content by selling video courses. I didn’t have any proof of this concept at the time, but I had a feeling it might work.

The working class in New York City was remade in the mid-nineteenth century. In the 1820s a substantial majority of city artisans were native-born; by the 1850s three-quarters of the city's laboring men and women were immigrants. How did the influx of this large group of young adults affect the city's working class? What determined the texture of working-class life during the antebellum period? Richard Stott addresses these questions as he explores the social and economic dimensions of working-class culture. Working-class culture, Stott maintains, is grounded in the material environment, and when work, population, consumption, and the uses of urban space change as rapidly as they did in the mid-nineteenth century, culture will be transformed. Using workers' first-person accounts—letters, diaries, and reminiscences—as evidence, and focusing on such diverse topics as neighborhoods, diet, saloons, and dialect, he traces the rise of a new, youth-oriented working-class culture. By illuminating the everyday experiences of city workers, he shows that the culture emerging in the 1850s was a culture clearly different from that of native-born artisans of an earlier period and from that of the middle class as well.

Urban Schools written by Mickey Lauria and has been published by Peter Lang this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Education categories.
Urban Schools documents the quality of resistance and identity politics in relation to both the formal and hidden curricula of urban schools, their pedagogical practices, and their administrative norms and policies. Building on the notion that the study of «marginality» is equally as important as an understanding of the school's structural connections to the wider society, Mickey Lauria and Luis F. Mirón demonstrate how resistance is much more than a random series of psychological events. Indeed, within the social context of the formation of racial and ethnic identity in schools in New Orleans, Louisiana, students' acts of resistance alter the ideological structures of schooling.
