The book examines the role of journalists and news media in constructing meanings about the pandemic, with chapters focusing on public interest journalism, health workers and imagined audiences in COVID-19 news. It considers public health responses in different countries, with chapters examining community-driven approaches, communication strategies of governments and political leaders, public health advocacy, and pandemic inequalities. Policy Styles And Trust In The Age Of Pandemics written by Nikolaos Zahariadis and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-04-07 with Political Science categories.

This book explores the reasons behind the variation in national responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. In doing so, it furthers the policy studies scholarship through an examination of the effects of policy styles on national responses to the pandemic. Despite governments being faced with the same threat, significant variation in national responses, frequently of contradictory nature, has been observed. Implications about responses inform a broader class of crises beyond this specific context. The authors argue that trust in government interacts with policy styles resulting in different responses and that the acute turbulence, uncertainty, and urgency of crises complicate the ability of policymakers to make sense of the problem. Finally, the book posits that unless there is high trust between society and the state, a decentralized response will likely be disastrous and concludes that while national responses to crises aim to save lives, they also serve to project political power and protect the status quo. This text will be of key interest to scholars and students of public policy, public administration, political science, sociology, public health, and crisis management/disaster management studies.

"The most recent pandemic, COVID-19 was left out of this research. At the time of this writing, it was still considered a current event. All the research and writing of this thesis took place during the years of the COVID-19 pandemic which produced numerous new sources as Christians once again wondered how to respond to a pandemic. It is not, nor should it ever have been, a mystery. We have centuries of examples set before us by Christians who already wrestled through this question. Yes, each pandemic is unique and as time progresses, so too do the individual situations people find themselves in. But the core mission of the Church is the same, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you,” (Matt 26:19-20). There are many ways to spread the Gospel and introduce people to Jesus, but pandemics bring a specific strain on society that allows the cracks to show through. In a broken and fallen world people need the Good News of Jesus and the hope Christians have to offer. We cannot fail them by not being there. The COVID-19 pandemic has ended, but sickness and death have not. There will be another pandemic in the future of the human race unless the Lord returns. It is a shame for Christians to respond as if it is a brand new occurrence. Let us look to our forefathers and mothers in the faith and learn how to respond and continue to spread the Gospel."--Conclusion.
