Nei Bordelli di Himmler si tocca un tema spesso poco approfondito dalla ricerca storica sull’economia di guerra del Terzo Reich: la costruzione di “edifici speciali” destinati agli internati dei campi di concentramento nazisti. Su iniziativa di Heinrich Himmler, le SS introdussero la fruizione del bordello del campo come incentivo per aumentare la produttività dei lavoratori forzati (insieme a razioni extra di cibo, sigarette e altre agevolazioni). A inserirsi in questo sistema c’erano anche le aziende civili: le imprese tedesche, infatti, compravano dalle SS buoni per prestazioni sessuali a pagamento e li distribuivano come gratifica ai lavoratori più meritevoli, che poi li utilizzavano nei bordelli gestiti dalle Schutzstaffel stesse. E qui il cerchio si chiude. Ma chi sono le vittime di questo singolare sistema di lavoro a cottimo, costrette a soddisfare i desideri dei prigionieri dei campi di concentramento maschili? E, soprattutto, che ne è stato di loro nel dopoguerra, in seguito alla liberazione? Finalmente, le schiave sessuali escono dall’ombra in cui sono state confinate. Il volume è arricchito con immagini e documenti che testimoniano le pratiche di sfruttamento sessuale e i luoghi dei campi in cui la violenza veniva perpetrata Le autrici e l’autore sono storici con esperienza nel campo espositivo. Baris Alakus, nata a I. spir, in Turchia, è storica dell’arte e museologa; Katharina Kniefacz, viennese, è pubblicista; Robert Vorberg, anch’egli viennese, ha lavorato in diversi musei e archivi, tra cui quello del campo di concentramento di Mauthausen.
