Questo libro è costituito da due parti. La prima è la trascrizione integrale, ragionata e sistematica della rara traduzione italiana di uno dei primissimi rapporti sulla Shoah, dal titolo Lo stermino degli Ebrei, pubblicato dal Comitato d'Informazioni Interalleato di Londra nel dicembre del 1942. La "soluzione finale" era drammaticamente in atto e il rapporto la descriveva e denunciava con tragica vividezza. Esso consente oggi di osservare la Shoah mentre stava avvenendo e di rivivere lo stupito orrore dei contemporanei di fronte alle politiche di sterminio naziste. La seconda parte contiene due appendici con esempi molto significativi dell'antisemitismo fascista. Una comprende testi e immagini della rivista La Difesa della Razza, l'altra si concentra su alcuni articoli antisemiti del quotidiano Il Regime Fascista, pubblicati durante i primi mesi della Repubblica Sociale Italiana. Sia il rapporto del 1942 che i testi analizzati nelle appendici appartengono alla collezione dell'autore.

Fascism and the racial laws of 1938 dramatically changed the scientific research and the academic community. Guarnieri focuses on psychology, from its promising origins to the end of the WWII. Psychology was marginalized in Italy both by the neo-idealistic reaction against science, and fascism (unlike Nazism) with long- lasting consequences. Academics and young scholars were persecuted because they were antifascist or Jews and the story of Italian displaced scholars is still an embarrassing one. The book follows scholars who emigrated to the United States, such as psychologist Renata Calabresi, and to Palestine, such as Enzo Bonaventura. Guarnieri traces their journey and the help they received from antifascist and Zionist networks and by international organizations. Some succeeded, some did not, and very few went back.
