Identification And Control Of Sheet And Film Processes written by Andrew P. Featherstone and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Science categories.
Sheet and film processes include coating, papermaking, metal rolling, and polymer film extrusion. Products produced by these processes include paper, bumper stickers, plastic bags, windshield safety glass, and sheet metal. The total capitalization of industries that rely on these processes is well over $ 500 billion worldwide. These processes are notorious for being difficult to control. The goal of this book is to present the theoretical background and practical techniques for the identification and control of sheet and film processes. It is explained why many existing industrial control systems perform poorly for sheet and film processes. Identification and control algorithms are described and illustrated which provide consistent and reliable product quality. These algorithms include an experimental design technique that ensures that informative data are collected during input-output experimentation, model identification techniques that produce a process model and an estimate of its accuracy, and control techniques that take into account actuator constraints as well as robustness to model uncertainties. The algorithms covered in this book are truly the state of the art. Variations on some of the algorithms have been implemented on industrial sheet and film processes. Other algorithms are in various stages of implementation. All of the algorithms have been applied to realistic simulation models constructed from industrial plant data; many of these studies are included in this book.

Model Based Fault Diagnosis In Dynamic Systems Using Identification Techniques written by Silvio Simani and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-11 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Safety in industrial process and production plants is a concern of rising importance but because the control devices which are now exploited to improve the performance of industrial processes include both sophisticated digital system design techniques and complex hardware, there is a higher probability of failure. Control systems must include automatic supervision of closed-loop operation to detect and isolate malfunctions quickly. A promising method for solving this problem is "analytical redundancy", in which residual signals are obtained and an accurate model of the system mimics real process behaviour. If a fault occurs, the residual signal is used to diagnose and isolate the malfunction. This book focuses on model identification oriented to the analytical approach of fault diagnosis and identification covering: choice of model structure; parameter identification; residual generation; and fault diagnosis and isolation. Sample case studies are used to demonstrate the application of these techniques.

In the usual process of control system design, the assumption is made that the controller is implemented exactly. This assumption is usually reasonable, since clearly, the plant uncertainty is the most significant source of uncertainty in the control system, while controllers are implemented with high-precision hardware. However, inevitably, there will be some amount of uncertainty in the controller, a fact that is largely ignored in existing modern advanced robust control techniques. If the controller is implemented by analogue means, there are some tolerances in the analogue components. More commonly, the controller will be implemented digitally, and consequently there will be uncertainty involved with the quantization in the analogue-digital conversion and rounding in the parameter representation and in the numerical computations. A failure to account for these uncertainties in the controller may result in a controller that is "fragile". A controller is fragile in the sense that very small perturbations in the coefficients of the designed controller destabilize the closed-loop control system. This book collects a number of articles which consider the problems of finite-precision computing in digital controllers and filters. Written by leading researchers, topics that the book covers include: - analysis of fragility and finite-precision effects; - design of optimal controller realizations; - design of non-fragile robust controllers; - design of low-complexity digital controllers; - analysis of quantization effects in fuzzy controllers.

Plant control systems are subject to the undesirable influence of exogenous commands and disturbances. To track and reject these the authors have designed a feedback control system based on embedding a model of them within the controller itself - the "internal model". From a review of the principles of internal-model-based feedback control design, this book moves on to expound recent enhancements to such designs and then to their implementation in systems operating under conditions of great uncertainty. The case studies presented involve control systems coping with a high degree of nonlinear behaviour. The key issues addressed in each are the design of an adaptive internal model for the specific tracking task and of stabilizing control capable of steering the tracking error to zero while keeping all internal states bounded for any arbitrarily large but bounded envelope of initial data and uncertain parameters. Nested saturated controls form the basis of novel tools for asymptotic analysis and design.

The series Advances in Industrial Control aims to report and encourage of control technology transfer in control engineering. The rapid development technology has an impact on all areas of the control discipline. New theory, new controllers, actuators, sensors, new industrial processes, computer methods, new applications, new philosophies ... , new challenges. Much of this development work resides in industrial reports, feasibility study papers and the reports of advanced collaborative projects. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of such new work in all aspects of industrial control for wider and rapid dissemination. Nonlinear control methods continue to exert a continuing fascination for current researchers in control systems techniques. Many industrial systems are nonlinear as was so ably demonstrated in the recent Advances in Industrial Control monograph on hydraulic servo-systems by M. Jelali and A. Kroll. However, the need to use a nonlinear control technique depends on the severity of the nonlinearity and the performance specification of the application. In some cases it is imperative that a nonlinear technique be used. The type of technique which is applied usually depends on the available information on the system description. This is the key determinant in the development of new nonlinear control methods. Over the next few years it is hoped that the nonlinear control paradigm will produce several methods which will be easily and widely applicable in industrial problems. In the meantime the search and development research go on.

From time to time a particular practical control problem emerges as a challenge to the design capabilities of the control community. One example has been the activated sludge process in wastewater systems where the process is highly nonlinear and measurements are few. A second example is the hard disk drive servo system. These widely used systems are critical to the operation of modem computing devices. They are nonlinear and demand a high-precision control system for the operations of track seeking and track following. There are also alternative actuation systems available to achieve these objectives. In this Advances in Industrial Control monograph B.M. Chen, T.H. Lee and V.
