The series Advances in Industrial Control aims to report and encourage of control technology transfer in control engineering. The rapid development technology has an impact on all areas of the control discipline. New theory, new controllers, actuators, sensors, new industrial processes, computer methods, new applications, new philosophies ... , new challenges. Much of this development work resides in industrial reports, feasibility study papers and the reports of advanced collaborative projects. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of such new work in all aspects of industrial control for wider and rapid dissemination. Nonlinear control methods continue to exert a continuing fascination for current researchers in control systems techniques. Many industrial systems are nonlinear as was so ably demonstrated in the recent Advances in Industrial Control monograph on hydraulic servo-systems by M. Jelali and A. Kroll. However, the need to use a nonlinear control technique depends on the severity of the nonlinearity and the performance specification of the application. In some cases it is imperative that a nonlinear technique be used. The type of technique which is applied usually depends on the available information on the system description. This is the key determinant in the development of new nonlinear control methods. Over the next few years it is hoped that the nonlinear control paradigm will produce several methods which will be easily and widely applicable in industrial problems. In the meantime the search and development research go on.

Improving the performance of the power amplifier is the most pressing problem facing designers of modern radio-frequency (RF) transceivers. Linearity and power efficiency of the transmit path are of utmost importance, and the power amplifier has proven to be the bottleneck for both. High linearity enables transmission at the highest data rates for a given channel bandwidth, and power efficiency prolongs battery lifetime in portable units and reduces heat dissipation in high-power transmitters. Cartesian feedback is a power amplifier linearization technique that acts to soften the tradeoff between power efficiency and linearity in power amplifiers. Despite its compelling, fundamental advantages, the technique has not enjoyed widespread acceptance because of certain implementation difficulties. Feedback Linearization of RF Power Amplifiers introduces new techniques for overcoming the challenges faced by the designer of a Cartesian feedback system. The theory of the new techniques are described and analyzed in detail. The book culminates with the results of the first known fully integrated Cartesian feedback power amplifier system, whose design was enabled by the techniques described. Feedback Linearization of RF Power Amplifiers is a valuable reference work for engineers in the telecommunications industry, industry researchers, academic researchers.

" This book introduces nonlinear control systems for control engineering and science to graduate, undergraduate students and researchers; it targets control engineering students who do not like to do not have time to derive and prove mathematical results for nonlinear control systems. It can be serve as a text book for nonlinear control systems, especially for feedback linearization techniques which is a common approach in controlling nonlinear systems. The development of computer software for nonlinear control systems has provided many benefits for teaching, research, and the development of control systems design. MATLAB is considered the dominant software platforms for linear and nonlinear control systems analysis. This book contains a MATLAB based program that helps teachers, students, and researchers with an easy to use for finding feedback linearization controller for a specific nonlinear class of systems Chapter (1) is an introduction to theoretical aspects of nonlinear feedback linearization techniques. We sue a simple and complex examples to better illustrate the method on how to find the feedback linearization controller for single and multi input output systems. In section (1.9) A MATLAB based program is developed and use to find feedback linearization control using symbolic MATLAB libraries for a special class of nonlinear systems Chapter (2), the concept of structure variable control will be introduced in intuitive way, with illustrative examples that makes the reader familiar with the theory of sliding mode control in an easy and simple way. After having defined the control law, the parameters of the controller should be identified, hence a simple method is presented to find those parameters. In section (2.4) A MATLAB based function is developed to find the sliding mode surfaces and controllers using symbolic MATLAB library for SISO and MIMO nonlinear dynamical systems that could be written in a special form. This textbook provides an easy way to learn nonlinear control systems such as feedback linearization technique and slidng mode control (Structrue varibale control) which are one of the most used techniques in nonlinear control dynamical systems; therefore teachers-students and 2 researchers are all in need to handle such techniques; and since they are too difficult for them to handle such nonlinear controllers especially for a more complicated systems such as induction motor, satellite, and vehicles dynamical models. Thus, this document it is an excellent resource for learning the principle of feedback linearization and sliding mode techniques in an easy and simple way: (a) Provides a briefs description of the feedback linearization and sliding mode control strategies (b) Includes a simple method on how to determine the right and appropriate controller (P-PI-PID) for feedback linearization control strategy. (c) Provides a MATLAB symbolic based programs that can solve the Lie derivative of any nonlinear dynamical system that could be written in a special form (d) A Symbolic Matlab Based function for finding the feedback linearization and sliding mode controllers are developed and tested using several examples. (e) A simple method for finding the approximate sliding mode controller parameters is introduced "

The series Advances in Industrial Control aims to report and encourage technology transfer in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology has an impact on all areas of the control discipline. Much of this development work resides in industrial reports, feasibility study papers and the reports of advanced collaborative projects. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of such new work in all aspects of industrial control for wider and rapid dissemination. Almost all physical systems are nonlinear and the success of linear control techniques depends on the extent of the nonlinear system behaviour and the careful attention given to switching linear controllers through the range of nonlinear system operations. In many industrial and process-control applications, good engineering practice, linear control systems and classical PID control can give satisfactory performance because the process nonlinearity is mild and the control system performance specification is not particularly demanding; however, there are other industrial system applications where the requirement for high-performance control can only be achieved if nonlinear control design techniques are used. Thus, in some industrial and technological domains there is a strong justification for more applications of nonlinear methods. One prevailing difficulty with nonlinear control methods is that they are not so easily understood nor are they easy to reduce to formulaic algorithms for routine application.

As pointed out by other researchers, hybrid structures in ocean engineering are based on flat concrete foundations. Due to wave action these foundations are exposed to different pressure distributions on the top and bottom sides. As a result, the bottom side is exposed to a saddle type pressure distribution leading to huge forces on the foundation. Indeed, such huge forces have been observed at a number of offshore platforms installed in the North Sea. In an attempt to turn a problem into an advantage, the concept in this work aims to develop an integrated system to harness and harvest ocean wave energy right at the seabed. The long-term interest is to develop integrated devices that can be used as actuators or sensors, which, due to low manufacturing cost, can be employed in large quantities for control of ocean engineering systems, e.g., maritime renewable power-plants, or monitoring of marine processes, e.g., oceanographic sensing. A key element to the proposed system is the nonlinear coupled electromechanical oscillator unit, the dynamics of which are investigated with a novel approach in this work. The fundamental nature of the oscillator at hand makes it an excellent choice for applications involving oceanic transducers consisting of a dry driving electrical stator physically separated from a wet-driven payload mechanism. Without such units available at a low cost and a large number, harvesting the energy of a vibrating plate at seabed may prove impractical.

Fully Tuned Radial Basis Function Neural Networks for Flight Control presents the use of the Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural networks for adaptive control of nonlinear systems with emphasis on flight control applications. A Lyapunov synthesis approach is used to derive the tuning rules for the RBF controller parameters in order to guarantee the stability of the closed loop system. Unlike previous methods that tune only the weights of the RBF network, this book presents the derivation of the tuning law for tuning the centers, widths, and weights of the RBF network, and compares the results with existing algorithms. It also includes a detailed review of system identification, including indirect and direct adaptive control of nonlinear systems using neural networks. Fully Tuned Radial Basis Function Neural Networks for Flight Control is an excellent resource for professionals using neural adaptive controllers for flight control applications.
