El siglo XXI va a ser otro período de grandes migraciones, como lo fue el final del XIX y el principio del XX, y ello a pesar de la rápida globalización del comercio, de la inversión directa y la tecnología, y de la deslocalización de la producción que se está desarrollando al mismo tiempo. Son tres las razones de esta nueva ola migratoria. La primera es que los tres canales de globalización laboral –comercio, deslocalización y migración– están pasando de ser sustitutivos a ser complementarios. La segunda es que los costes de transporte de las personas, y por lo tanto el coste de emigrar, han caído aceleradamente. La tercera es que están aumentando los desequilibrios demográficos entre países desarrollados y en desarrollo, los primeros tienen una escasez creciente de mano de obra, por el rápido envejecimiento de su población, y los segundos un gran exceso de ella por la juventud de la suya, lo que hace que las diferencias de niveles salariales entre ambos sean crecientes. Esta globalización del trabajo está ayudando a reducir tales diferencias y a asignar la fuerza laboral mundial de forma más eficiente y también más equitativa, ya que la evidencia histórica demuestra que han sido los movimientos migratorios los que más han contribuido a mejorar la distribución mundial de la renta. El autor intenta explicar estos tres procesos de globalización del trabajo, muy especialmente el migratorio, de una forma sencilla y comprensible, sin por ello perder su rigurosidad y complejidad. Analiza a fondo las migraciones actuales y previsibles en el mundo futuro, cuáles son sus factores determinantes, qué efectos tienen en sus países de origen y de destino, qué problemas tienen los inmigrantes para adaptarse e integrarse en estos últimos y qué políticas son las más adecuadas para lograrlo. Finalmente, dedica dos capítulos a analizar estos mismos problemas en el contexto del reciente y rápido proceso inmigratorio en España.

This book analyzes how the increase in migration from other Latin American countries to countries of the American Southern Cone such as Brazil, Argentina and Chile has generated a crisis fueled by the emergence of hate discourses towards migrant populations. While extracontinental migration to Europe, North America and elsewhere has waned over the last decades, migration between Latin American countries has increased dramatically as a product of the differential development of the region’s economies, violence, and political turmoil. This book sets out to explain the effects of these trends by analyzing statistical data, official documents and ethnographic material gathered over a long period of research carried out throughout South America. The volume is divided in two parts. In the first part, it presents a theoretical contribution, synthesizing particularities of intraregional migration in Latin America, as well as the emergence of hate discourses towards migrant populations, developing approaches oriented towards a critical gender perspective. La convivencia entre españoles y marroquíes. El impacto de las migraciones en las relaciones interculturales aborda uno de los aspectos menos estudiados en la disciplina de las Relaciones Internacionales, las relaciones interculturales. El objetivo del trabajo es estudiar los procesos de cambio que tienen lugar en un contexto concreto (Comunidad de Madrid) como resultado del fenómeno migratorio, tanto en la población inmigrada, como en la sociedad receptora. Conocer cuáles son las dinámicas de interacción cultural mutua, es decir, qué se rechaza del “otro”, qué se adapta y qué permanece inalterado en la propia identidad resulta imprescindible para mejorar la convivencia en una sociedad, como la española, caracterizada por una creciente interculturalidad. Frente a las teorías simplificadoras impulsadas por Huntington que abocan a un conflicto ineludible entre civilizaciones, pero que carecen de sustrato empírico, la investigación realizada se basa en un extenso trabajo de campo donde participan españoles y marroquíes en la que se muestra una realidad rica y sutil en los matices. A través de las prácticas cotidianas, se observa como las personas se encuentran en un proceso de continua reelaboración de la propia identidad cultural. Para realizar el trabajo, se ha utilizado un amplio abanico de técnicas de investigación cuantitativas (encuestas) y cualitativas (grupos de discusión, grupos enfocados, observación y observación participante). Lucía Ferreiro Prado es Licenciada en Periodismo por la Universidad de Navarra (2005), máster en Relaciones Internacionales y Comunicación (Universidad Complutense, 2006) y especialista en Seguridad Internacional (UNED, 2007). En 2011, se doctora por la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos en la especialidad de Relaciones Internacionales y obtiene una nota de sobresaliente cum laude por unanimidad. Sus líneas de investigación son cultura y migraciones en las Relaciones Internacionales y la promoción democrática de la Unión Europea en el Norte de África.
