Winner of a Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing Research Training Within Industry, by Donald Dinero, explores a crucial piece of a Lean initiative that has been overlooked throughout U.S. industry. The Training Within Industry (TWI) program — developed by the United States during World War II — has been used by Toyota for decades! This powerful program standardizes training processes and assists front-line supervisors in teaching new operations to workers quickly and effectively. Dinero completely explores the history and application of the four modules that compose TWI:Job Instruction — in which employees are trained to perform their tasks as quickly as they are capable with minimal waste; Job Methods — in which employees are taught how to improve their processes using existing resources; Job Relations — in which personnel problems are solved in an analytical, non-emotional manner so that employees are focused on a stated objective; and Program Development — in which robust training plans are developed to meet the particular needs of a specific plant. Readers of Training Within Industry will see that standardized work imparts measurable continuous improvement because it sets a baseline. It establishes a framework for efficiency and innovation. In addition, the book includes a CD containing the text of original TWI bulletins issued by the U.S. government in the 1940s. Exploding Technical Communication written by Remley Dirk and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-04-29 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

Within the framework of New Literacy Studies, Dirk Remley presents a historical study of how technical communication practices at a World War II arsenal sponsored literacy within the community in which it operated from 1940 to 1960 and contemporary implications of similar forms of sponsorship. The Training within Industry (TWI) methods developed by the U.S. government and industry at that time included multimodal literate practices, particularly combinations of visual, oral, experiential, and print-linguistic text. Analyses reveal a hierarchy in which print-linguistic literacies were generally esteemed at the workplace and in the community. This literacy hierarchy contributed to a catastrophic accident that killed 11 people, prompting changes in the approach to designing certain training documents. This book links technical communication, especially the multimodal forms of representation commonly found in technical communication and instructional materials, to the concept of literacy sponsorship. The TWI methods used in training and system improvement during World War II are currently applied in business and industry as part of the "lean operating" and "continuous improvement" philosophies. These methods have also become part of the experiential learning philosophy favored in academia. Remley includes examples of current applications of multimodal forms of technical communication similar to those used at the arsenal as well as new media-related applications related to training and instruction. He also discusses their implications for literacy sponsorship. This book provides useful information for technical communication and literacy scholars and educators as well as practical case studies for business leaders, consultants, and practitioners. Intended Audience: Scholars in technical communication and literacy/writing studies; scholars in business (especially management and organizational analysis) and business communication consultants; scholars in history and sociology.

Reimagining School Integration written by Jennifer B. Ayscue and has been published by IAP this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-08-01 with Education categories.

Since the peak of school desegregation in the late 1980s, schools across the nation have been resegregating such that schools are now as segregated as they were during the late 1960s. Segregation is systematically linked to unequal educational opportunities and outcomes while integration, when well structured, is associated with numerous short-term and long-term academic and social benefits for individuals and society. In a time when public education is under attack and our nation is deeply divided along the lines of race, class, and politics, the potential of integration to create more equitable educational opportunities and outcomes for individual students as well as greater social cohesion for our democratic, pluralistic society is more important than ever. Seventy years after the Supreme Court’s landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision ruled that segregated schools are inherently unequal, this book reimagines what integration is and could be in our nation’s current context of racial and political polarization, the expansion of unregulated choice in public education, and an increasingly diverse, multiracial public school enrollment. Through an exploration of research and policy, this book develops a new conceptualization of integration by describing the contemporary drivers of segregation and recommending strategies to create a more equitable, meaningful, equal -status form of educational integration for the future. This book is a valuable resource for policymakers, scholars, educators, and concerned citizens who are invested in learning about one way to help create a more equitable and just education system.
