She received her prim ary education in a country school and later took her College course by working her own way through College. During her first year she was powerfully convicted of sin, and surrendered to Christ, passing from a terrible sense Of Sin, Into the bright sunlight and glorious liberty of the children Of God. Soon after receiving this Apostolic type of conversion, a clear conviction came to her that She was divinely called to be a Missionary in India. She however, even after such a clear conversion, and undoubted call, had a long and hard struggle with herself before she was ready to Obey the heavenly vision. Concerning how she got the victory she writes, One day I fell down on my knees in submission to God, and said Lord I will go anywhere.' Six months later She had typhoid fever, and went nigh unto death, and one day as a cold chill passed over her, she asked an aunt, Is this death? The aunt softly answered Yes, are you afraid 2 She writes I answered, 'no, ' and then God seemed to say to me If you live, will you live for India 2' and I answered back India or heaven, whichever be thy will, Oh! I have also attempted to show how the mission aries work and travel as they seek to unfold before the myriads of Hindus the unsearchable riches of Christ. The writing of this work has given me intense pleasure, as it has compelled me to live over again some of the happiest years of my life, and brought back to view scenes and people that had almost faded from memory. I can only wish that my readers may have as great delight in forming the acquaintance of some of these, as I have hadin recalling them to mind. Excerpt from The Wild Tribes of India The chief abode of the aboriginal races to be described is the centre of the peninsula - namely, the Vindhya mountains, which run east and west, from the Ganges to Guzerat, and the broad forest-tract extending north and south from the neighbourhood of Allahabad to the banks Of the Godavery; but they are not necessarily the aborigines of the places they now occupy. In the Vedas the Dasyas are spoken of as having given a great deal of trouble and annoy ance to the Brahmans; and they were apparently pushed into their present homes by successive tides of invaders operating against them, and often appear as if they were cut off into small parties in their flight, portions of the same race being found scattered in different corners of the country. The main divi sions of the Darya race as now seen are: the Gonds, the Bheels, the Kolis, the Mairs and Meenas, thc Khonds, the Koles, and the Sonthals; but they are not all one people - at least not at the present day.
