Insights into LeadershipThis book was written primarily for teachers and students who are learning about the characteristics of effective leaders although principals and leaders in other organizations may also benefit from reading the book. It could be used in a staff development for teachers or with students learning about leadership. Part I of the book is the author's personal definition of leadership with a focus on education. Teachers can decide if they want to share Part I with students or not. They may also want to think about how their personal ideas about leadership coincide or conflict with the author's ideas. Part II is a story in which the author turns her research related to leadership into a story and discussion within a classroom with the intention of engaging teachers and students in a similar discussion. Part II should be read and discussed over several days. As teachers and students read Part II, they will be asked to think about ideas related to leadership and about the roles played by members of a group. Discussion questions are included. In addition, the appendix has ideas for other activities related to leadership, including plans for a research study and a leadership project. Honest conversations can often lead to a greater sense of community within classrooms, which is always desired. Readers will come away from this book with a clearer understanding of altruistic and other forms of leadership. They will better understand how to be a leader and a participant in a group, and they will better understand the importance of vision, attainable objectives, skills, incentives, resources, action plan, monitoring, and evaluation. Such understandings will help readers be better prepared to be leaders and participants in groups in the classroom, the school, society, and the political system.

In Teacher Leadership, Lieberman and Miller discuss current changes in the teacher's role, and make sense of the research on teacher leadership. They offer case studies of innovative programs - such as the National Writing Project - that provide teachers with opportunities to lead within a professional community. In addition, they tell stories of individual teachers - from Maine to California - who are able to lead in a variety of contexts. Teacher Leadership offers a new standard of teaching and community that recognizes all teachers as leaders. It shows how to develop learning communities that include rather than exclude, create knowledge rather than merely apply it, and that offer challenge and support to both new and experienced teachers. This book is a volume in the Jossey-Bass Leadership Library in Education - a series designed to meet the demand for new ideas and insights about leadership in schools.

As principals, we push ourselves to learn, grow, and innovate because our role remains in a state of flux. When it comes to leadership, though, it’s imperative that we focus on growing the most important resource in the school—our teachers. Igniting Teacher Leadership is written for busy school leaders who want to foster learning and growth not only for students but also for teachers. Effective leadership is vital in creating a culture of collaboration, modeling continuous improvement, and developing enhanced engagement throughout the building. In short, effective leadership leads to better teachers, who in turn design more powerful learning experiences, empower students, and create better schools. Experienced school leader and author William Sterrett offers strategies and examples for fostering teacher leadership, facilitating professional learning, and promoting “growing habits” to help translate key points into practical action steps. Sterrett has also written Insights Into Action: Successful School Leaders Share What Works and Short on Time: How do I make time to lead and learn as a principal?

Understanding Educational Leadership written by Hugh Busher and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Education categories.

This book is aimed at school leaders, middle managers and teachers who want to understand more critically about how the organizational and interpersonal processes of leadership affect the quality of learning and teaching. The book considers how leaders at all levels in schools - from the most senior manager to the classroom teacher - negotiate and work together to construct, sustain and improve successful learning and promote a sense of community among the students and staff who are members of the school. This is a timely book as there is renewed recognition of the importance of distributed leadership in developing creative schools and an emerging recognition of teachers operating as leaders and managers of students' learning. Another key element is the recognition of the importance of middle managers in schools as pastoral leaders and subject leaders who can shape effective learning and teaching. Whilst other books have looked at the processes of school leadership (ie strategies and functions), the focus here is on people and the quality of relationships and how they can impact on the success or failure of school processes. It offers insights into why some strategies employed by educational leaders work and others do not.
