David W. Krueger illustrates a novel synthesis of fundamental psychodynamic principles with evolving advances in developmental, self, neuropsychological, and attachment theories. Focusing on action symptoms, self object experiences, gender issues, embodiment, somatic symptoms, affect regulation, and ego states, the theoretical innovations are illustrated by vivid case material. He introduces treatment inroads enabling clinicians to hear and articulate arcane messages spoken in metaphor, actualized in symptoms, and encrypted in the body. A fresh conceptualization from an original thinker, Integrating Body Self and Psychological Self broadens our understanding of the mind and body interplay in the clinical exchange.

The book is intended for those who feel that the science of psychology needs a concept that integrates the current thinking schools. The author, a European psychologist active in HR consulting, has developed a thinking frame, a paradigm, that is independent of current research schools, but which integrates in a simple model existing results and theories of psychology. The book contains formal and visual descriptions of the suggested model, as well as independent articles that use this model in everyday life, dealing with phenomena including problem solving, altruism, aggression, sex, and religion.Although elements of this concept are already known, to enable a better understanding of this new perspective on human beings, the book contains many illustrations and easy-to-understand examples. In this way the book can reach every person who is interested in social sciences and who would like to improve their understanding of our selves, as well as psychologists and scientists in this field.

Body States Interpersonal And Relational Perspectives On The Treatment Of Eating Disorders written by Jean Petrucelli and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-08-07 with Psychology categories.

In this edited volume, Jean Petrucelli brings together the work of talented clinicians and researchers steeped in working with eating disordered patients for the past 10 to 35 years. Eating disorders are about body-states and their relational meanings. The split of mindbody functioning is enacted in many arenas in the eating disordered patient’s life. Concretely, a patient believes that disciplining or controlling his or her body is a means to psychic equilibrium and interpersonal effectiveness. The collected papers in Body-States: Interpersonal and Relational Perspectives on the Treatment of Eating Disorders elaborates the essential role of linking symptoms with their emotional and interpersonal meanings in the context of the therapy relationship so that eating disordered patients can find their way out and survive the unbearable. The contributors bridge the gaps in varied protocols for recovery, illustrating that, at its core, trust in the reliability of the humanness of the other is necessary for patients to develop, regain, or have - for the first time - a stable body. They illustrate how embodied experience must be cultivated in the patient/therapist relationship as a felt experience so patients can experience their bodies as their own, to be lived in and enjoyed, rather than as an ‘other’ to be managed. In this collection Petrucelli convincingly demonstrates how interpersonal and relational treatments address eating problems, body image and "problems in living." Body States: Interpersonal and Relational Perspectives on the Treatment of Eating Disorders will be essential reading for psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and a wide range of professionals and lay readers who are interested in the topic and treatment of eating disorders.

From Dualism To Oneness In Psychoanalysis written by Yorai Sella and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-01-19 with Psychology categories.

From Dualism to Oneness in Psychoanalysis: A Zen Perspective on the Mind-Body Question focuses on the shift in psychoanalytic thought, from a view of mind-body dualism to a contemporary non-dualistic perspective. Exploring this paradigm shift, Yorai Sella examines the impact of the work of psychoanalysts and researchers, such as Winnicott, Bion, Daniel Stern and Kohut, and delineates the contributions of three major schools of psychoanalytic thought in which the non-dualistic view is exemplified: (1) intersubjective; (2) neuro-psychoanalytic; and (3) mystically inclined psychoanalysis. Reaching beyond the constraints of dualism, Sella delineates the interdisciplinary approaches leading to psychoanalysis's paradigm shift. Focusing on the unique contribution of Zen-Buddhism, the book draws on Ehei Dōgen's philosophy to substantiate the non-duality of subject and object, body and mind - ultimately leading from alienation and duality to what Bion has termed "at one-ment". The way in which psychoanalytic theory and practice may develop further along these lines is demonstrated throughout the book in a variety of clinical vignettes. This book will inform the practice of all psychoanalysts, mental health professionals, psychotherapists and clinicians interested in mind-body issues in psychotherapy, in the philosophy of psychoanalysis, and in East-West dialogue.

Biological psychiatry. Neuropsychiatry categories.

Relative to the extensive neuroscientific work on seated meditation practices, far less studies have investigated the neural mechanisms underlying movement-based contemplative practices such as yoga or tai chi. Movement-based practices have, however, been found to be effective for relieving the symptoms of several clinical conditions, and to elicit measurable changes in physiological, neural, and behavioral parameters in healthy individuals. An important challenge for neuroscience is therefore to advance our understanding of the neurophysiological and neurocognitive mechanisms underlying these observed effects, and this Research Topic aims to make a contribution in this regard. It showcases the current state of the art of investigations on movement-based practices including yoga, tai chi, the Feldenkrais Method, as well as dance. Featured contributions include empirical research, proposals of theoretical frameworks, as well as novel perspectives on a variety of issues relevant to the field. This Research Topic is the first of its kind to specifically attempt a neurophysiological and neurocognitive characterization that spans multiple mindful movement approaches, and we trust it will be of interest to basic scientists, clinical researchers, and contemplative practitioners alike.
