In freeform optics, the optimization is limited due to large number of parameters present in it. This limitation was overcome by a technique known as optimization using freeform deformation (OFFD). Though this technique proved to work well, it has left many challenges to the optical designer. These challenges are solved by providing mathematical design techniques. This implementation transformed the OFFD into an intelligent tool replacing the optical designer's efforts during the design process.

Aus den gewonnenen Erkenntnissen werden Ansätze zur Verbesserung der Langzeitstabilität von LED-Baugruppen abgeleitet. - This work deals with the material degradation of LED package materials and their contribution to degradation of the whole LED device. The occurring failure modes within the LED package are described and predicted by the degradation of the used package materials. Based on these findings approaches for long lifetime LEDs are derived.

Die Fahrerintentionserkennung ermöglicht es den Fußgängern, die neuartigen Zeichen zu erlernen, indem der Fahrer und das Fahrzeug kommunizieren. - Especially pedestrians rely on the interaction with other road users. The introduction of automated driving systems withdraws this communication from drivers and thus, vehicles need to interact with pedestrians. Therefore, multiple vehicle-pedestrian-communication concepts are evaluated. A driver intention prediction allows pedestrians to learn these newly introduced signals, while driver and vehicle communicate simultaneously.

In this work describes the development of a light-based driver assistance system through projections on the road. Under realistic conditions it is shown that information can be transmitted to the driver at night by using projections in front of the vehicle: test persons drive more safely through narrow spaces and react earlier to obstacles. A prototype suitable for road use demonstrates the possibility of a near-series implementation of such a headlamp projection system.

Diese wurde im Rahmen dieser Arbeit entwickelt und validiert. - Due to its dynamic range, the human eye can adapt to a wide variety of light situations within a very short time. If the dynamic range of the eye is insufficient, glare occurs. There is no suitable objective measurement method to describe the effects on visual performance and its course. This was developed and validated as part of this work.

Durch Anhaften von Verunreinigungen wie Regen oder Staub auf der Sensorschutzscheibe wird die Sensorfunktionalität stark eingeschränkt. In dieser Arbeit werden Methoden zur Detektion und Charakterisierung von Verunreinigungen vorgestellt, die eine intelligente und vollständig automatisierte Reinigung der Oberfläche ermöglichen. - By providing a high resolution at high distances in a broad field of view, LiDAR sensors are a key element in automated driving cars. However, in harsh environmental conditions, particles from rain or dust attach on the outer surface of the sensor and cause a degradation of the overall performance. This work introduces several methods to detect and characterize those particles, realizing the integration of an intelligent and fully automated cleaning system to restore the required performance.
