Interaction Effects In Factorial Analysis Of Variance written by James Jaccard and has been published by SAGE this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998 with Mathematics categories.

Although factorial analysis is widely used in the social sciences, there is some confusion as to how to use the techniqueÆs most powerful featureùthe evaluation of interaction effects. Written to remedy this situation, author James Jaccard clearly describes the issues underlying the effective analysis of interaction in factorial designs. The book begins by describing different ways of characterizing interactions in ANOVA, elucidating both moderator conceptualizations of interactions as well as that of residualized means. After discussing interaction effects using traditional hypothesis testing approaches, he then covers alternative analytic frameworks that focus on effect size methodology and interval estimation. Jaccard summarizes criticisms of classical null hypothesis testing and offers practical guidelines for pursuing magnitude estimation and interval estimation approaches. In addition, Jaccard shows applications of all three approaches to the analysis of interactions using a complete numerical example; discusses strategies for effectively exploring interactions in higher order designs and designs with more than two levels per factor; highlights the central role of single degree of freedom contrasts and provides numerous illustrations for formulating such contrasts; considers simplified approaches to statistical power analysis; describes approaches to consider when statistical assumptions are not met; explicates the case of unequal sample sizes; considers the impact of measurement error; and demonstrates computer applications. Readers who have wanted a book that fully discusses different conceptualizations of interactions as well as one that provides practical guidelines for analyzing complex interactions will find this volume the one that they have been seeking.

Polarity Sensitive Expressions written by Hideki Kishimoto and has been published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-12-18 with Foreign Language Study categories.

Polarity (positive, negative) is one of the most fundamental concepts in the system of language and there are many expressions that are sensitive to polarity. For example, any in English and wh-mo in Japanese appear in negative contexts, but not in positive contexts. While previous studies have shown that polarity-sensitive expressions are a general phenomenon in languages, it has also become clear that there are variations in polarity-sensitive expressions. This volume explores the variations in polarity-sensitive expressions through comparisons between Japanese and other languages, such as English, German, Spanish, and Old Japanese, and examines the environments and contexts in which polarity-sensitive expressions occur, as well as the types of (cross-linguistic) variation allowed. The value of the present volume lies in its inclusion of research papers inquiring into various types of polarity-sensitive expressions, such as negative-, positive-, and discourse-sensitive polarity items as well as their variations. The research indicates new directions for the study of polarity-sensitive expressions in the fields of syntax, semantics, pragmatics, historical linguistics, corpus linguistics and psycholinguistics.

Interaction Effects In Multiple Regression written by James Jaccard and has been published by SAGE Publications, Incorporated this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990-02-01 with Social Science categories.

A synthesis of literature previously scattered across several disciplines, this volume addresses fundamental issues in the analysis of interaction effects in multiple regression with examples from different fields in the social sciences. It is organized around three core questions: one, given sample data can we conclude that there is an interaction effect in a population? Two, if so what is the strength of that effect? And three, what is the nature of that effect?

Adaptive Perspectives On Human Technology Interaction written by Alex Kirlik and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-05-04 with Psychology categories.

In everyday life, and particularly in the modern workplace, information technology and automation increasingly mediate, augment, and sometimes even interfere with how humans interact with their environment. How to understand and support cognition in human-technology interaction is both a practically and socially relevant problem. The chapters in this volume frame this problem in adaptive terms: How are behavior and cognition adapted, or perhaps ill-adapted, to the demands and opportunities of an environment where interaction is mediated by tools and technology? The authors draw heavily on the work of Egon Brunswik, a pioneer in ecological and cognitive psychology, as well as on modern refinements and extensions of Brunswikian ideas, including Hammond's Social Judgment Theory, Gigerenzer's Ecological Rationality and Anderson's Rational Analysis. Inspired by Brunswik's view of cognition as "coming to terms" with the "casual texture" of the external world, the chapters in this volume provide quantitative and computational models and measures for studying how people come to terms with an increasingly technological ecology, and provide insights for supporting cognition and performance through design, training, and other interventions. The methods, models, and measures presented in this book provide timely and important resources for addressing problems in the rapidly growing field of human-technology interaction. The book will be of interest to researchers, students, and practitioners in human factors, cognitive engineering, human-computer interaction, judgment and decision making, and cognitive science.
