Internal Variables In Thermoelasticity written by Arkadi Berezovski and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-05-05 with Science categories.

This book describes an effective method for modeling advanced materials like polymers, composite materials and biomaterials, which are, as a rule, inhomogeneous. The thermoelastic theory with internal variables presented here provides a general framework for predicting a material’s reaction to external loading. The basic physical principles provide the primary theoretical information, including the evolution equations of the internal variables. The cornerstones of this framework are the material representation of continuum mechanics, a weak nonlocality, a non-zero extra entropy flux, and a consecutive employment of the dissipation inequality. Examples of thermoelastic phenomena are provided, accompanied by detailed procedures demonstrating how to simulate them.

A Journey Into The Nonlinear World written by Jüri Engelbrecht and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-07-30 with Mathematics categories.

This is a personal story about being involved in the study of nonlinear phenomena for more than half a century. The focus is on the development of ideas and the resulting knowledge. This is the visible part of research, but much is usually hidden. The author describes how the ideas were generated and how an “invisible college” of friends and colleagues has emerged. The presentation is spiced by thoughts about the beauty of science and philosophical considerations on the complex world, where nonlinear interactions play an important role. The book is in some sense a biography but not so much about the personal life of the author – it is about science and its actors. Based on the author's experience in many European research centres and science policy institutions, it reflects on the development of knowledge in nonlinear dynamics as well as science policy actions over the second half of the 20th century and the first quarter of the 21st century. Graduates and postgraduates interested in the progress of research will find the book particularly engaging.

Dynamics Of Discrete And Continuum Structures And Media written by Holm Altenbach and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-07-19 with Science categories.

This volume is dedicated to the sixtieth birthday of Prof. Alexey Porubov and contains a selection of scientific papers prepared by papers by his friends and colleagues from different countries. It is devoted to actual research in dynamics considering discrete and continuum models of continuum and structures. It includes microstructures modeling the behavior of materials and offers new theoretical approaches in dynamics with applications. There has been rapid development in the field of continuum mechanics in recent years. This has led to new theoretical concepts, e.g., better inclusion of the microstructure in the models describing material behavior. At the same time, there are also more applications for the theories in engineering practice. The book gives a new insight into the current developments.

Continuous Media With Microstructure 2 written by Bettina Albers and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-02-09 with Science categories.

This book presents research advances in the field of Continuous Media with Microstructure and considers the three complementary pillars of mechanical sciences: theory, research and computational simulation. It focuses on the following problems: thermodynamic and mathematical modeling of materials with extensions of classical constitutive laws, single and multicomponent media including modern multifunctional materials, wave propagation, multiscale and multiphysics processes, phase transformations, and porous, granular and composite materials. The book presents the proceedings of the 2nd Conference on Continuous Media with Microstructure, which was held in 2015 in Łagów, Poland, in memory of Prof. Krzysztof Wilmański.

Thermomechanics of Solids and Structures: Physical Mechanisms, Continuum Mechanics, and Applications covers kinematics, balance equations, the strict thermodynamic frameworks of thermoelasticity, thermoplasticity, creep covering constitutive equations, the physical mechanisms of deformation, along with computational aspects. The book concludes with coverage of the thermodynamics of solids and applications of the constitutive three-dimensional model to both one-dimensional homogeneous and composite beam structures. Practical applications of the theories and techniques covered are emphasized throughout the book, with analytical solutions provided for various problems. - Provides foundational knowledge on continuum mechanics, covering kinematics, balance equations, isothermal elasticity and plasticity, variational principles, and more - Presents applications of constitutive 3D models to homogeneous and composite beams, including equations for stress and displacement estimation in thermoelastic beam problems - Reviews experimental results of thermoelastic material behavior, along with case studies to support reviews - Covers the inelastic behavior of materials at elevated temperatures, with experimental results for both monotonic and cyclic tensile tests presented - Looks at the physical mechanisms, experimental results, and constitutive modeling of creep

This publication is aimed at students, teachers, and researchers of Continuum Mechanics and focused extensively on stating and developing Initial Boundary Value equations used to solve physical problems. With respect to notation, the tensorial, indicial and Voigt notations have been used indiscriminately. The book is divided into twelve chapters with the following topics: Tensors, Continuum Kinematics, Stress, The Objectivity of Tensors, The Fundamental Equations of Continuum Mechanics, An Introduction to Constitutive Equations, Linear Elasticity, Hyperelasticity, Plasticity (small and large deformations), Thermoelasticity (small and large deformations), Damage Mechanics (small and large deformations), and An Introduction to Fluids. Moreover, the text is supplemented with over 280 figures, over 100 solved problems, and 130 references.

The Physics And Mathematics Of Adiabatic Shear Bands written by T. W. Wright and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-07-22 with Mathematics categories.

This book is a research monograph on the material instability known as adiabatic shear banding which often occurs in a plastically deforming material as it undergoes rapid shearing. Plastic deformation generates heat, which eventually softens most materials with continued straining, a process which is usually unstable. In this case the instability results in thin regions of highly deformed material, which are often the sites of further damage and complete failure. The main body of the book examines a series of one-dimensional problems of increasing complexity. In this way a comprehensive and quantitative picture of the complete phenomena is built up. Particular care is taken to use well established asymptotic techniques to find simple, but universal, analytic expressions or scaling laws that encapsulate various aspects of the dynamic formation and the final morphology of shear bands. A fully developed mechanics of shear is just beginning to emerge as a major companion to fracture mechanics, this book may speed the process along.

This book is the first of 2 special volumes dedicated to the memory of Gérard Maugin. Including 40 papers that reflect his vast field of scientific activity, the contributions discuss non-standard methods (generalized model) to demonstrate the wide range of subjects that were covered by this exceptional scientific leader. The topics range from micromechanical basics to engineering applications, focusing on new models and applications of well-known models to new problems. They include micro–macro aspects, computational endeavors, options for identifying constitutive equations, and old problems with incorrect or non-satisfying solutions based on the classical continua assumptions.
