Legal Education In The Global Context written by Christopher Gane and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-05-15 with Law categories.

This book discusses the opportunities and challenges facing legal education in the era of globalization. It identifies the knowledge and skills that law students will require in order to prepare for the practice of tomorrow, and explores pedagogical shifts legal education needs to make inside and outside of the classroom. With contributions from leading experts on legal education from various jurisdictions across the globe, the work combines theoretical depth with practical insights. Seeking to understand the changing landscape of legal education in the era of globalization, the contributions find that law schools can, and must, adopt educational strategies that at least present students with different understandings of what studying and practicing law is meant to be about. They find that law schools need to offer their students choices, a vision of practice that is not driven entirely by the demands of the marketplace or the needs of major international law firms. Bridging the gap between theory and practice, this book makes a significant contribution to the impact of globalization on legal education, and how students and law schools need to adapt for the future. It will be of great interest to academics and students of comparative legal studies and legal education, as well as policy-makers and practitioners.

This book offers comparative analyses on issues in lawyer regulation in England and Wales, Japan, Myanmar, New Zealand and Singapore. It examines the lawyer disciplinary systems in different jurisdictions through diverse and comparative perspectives. In addition to enriching the literature on legal ethics, contributions also highlight areas for future research regarding the legal and other professions in different jurisdictions and the methodologies that may be applied. Chapters examine common issues faced by lawyer disciplinary systems throughout the world, such as: transparency of regulatory outcomes, which varies widely and provides challenges to assessing the effectiveness of lawyer regulatory systems whether systems tilt too much toward protecting lawyers and if a move from self-regulation to independent regulators yields better outcomes changes in demographics of the legal profession and regulatory changes posing challenges in longitudinal studies of regulatory systems disciplining of repeat actors raising questions of the deterrence goals of a regulatory system deviation of systems that maintain tight state control over the legal profession from both United Nations and other international norms for lawyer discipline the role of pro bono obligations and the discourse around legal ethics Regulating Lawyers Through Disciplinary Systems will be an invaluable resource for scholars, practitioners and regulators of the legal profession, while also appealing to those interested in legal and other professional ethics. This book was originally published as a special issue of the International Journal of the Legal Profession.

The topic of "too many lawyers" is timely. The future make up and performance of the legal profession is in contest. What do we mean by "too many"? Is there a surplus of lawyers and what sort of lawyers are and will be needed? How best can we discern this? This book, is composed of scholarly articles presented at the Onati International Institute for the Sociology of Law (Spain), by some of the best researchers in the field, aims to answer these questions. This collection, with an introduction by Prof. Richard L. Abel, addresses methodological, normative and policy questions regarding the number of lawyers in particular countries and worldwide, while connecting this phenomenon to political, social, economic, historical, cultural and comparative contexts. This makes this book a source of interest to lawyers, law students, academic and policy makers as well as the discerning public. This book was previously published as a special issue of the International Journal of the Legal Profession.

"In the current climate, it is vital that practitioners are aware not just of legal developments, but also of how to sell their expertise in a crowded marketplace. This high-level new title, published in conjunction with the International Bar Association (IBA), brings together the expertise of IBA members and experienced practitioners to produce a practical guide to law firm management and building a successful business. The title is about contributing to the growth of a firm - since growth means higher profits, and everyone can both contribute to and benefit from this - rather than on law firm management. It is a pragmatic guide rather than an attempt at crystal ball gazing, and examines issues ranging from the impact of the financial crisis on law firms to marketing and PR, the challenges of internationalisation, how to grow a law firm and governance"--Page 4 of cover.

Reorganization And Resistance written by William Felstiner and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-12-19 with Law categories.

'Reorganization and Resistance' analyses the ways in which the legal professions of nine countries (England,France, the Netherlands, Germany, Canada, the US, Mexico, Australia and Korea) and one continent (South America) have confronted the internal and external political, economic and social upheavals of the past twenty years. It documents how change and resistance are inextricably tied together in an oppositional tension where the greater weight shifts gradually from one to the other, even shifts backwards at times, but in the long view runs in the direction of change. The most obvious instance almost everywhere is the struggle of women in legal professions where improvement is undeniable even as resistance is varied and stiff. The book charts the way demographic shifts have changed the work of lawyers, the way that the revenue from law practice has been re-distributed, and the extent to which barriers based on race, class, religion and gender have shrunk or shifted. It describes how some professions have been forced by government or co-regulation with government to reorganize. It also documents how others have not kept pace with transformations in the economy and changes and challenges to legal education take center stage while demographic shifts and institutional reorganization are of much less importance.

The Birth Of A New Advokatura In The Kyrgyz Republic written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Bar associations categories.

"After many years of discussion on draft legislation to reform and regulate the legal profession, a new bar association, 'Advokatura', was established in the Kyrgyz Republic in 2015. The establishment of the new bar association ends a long period during which the legal profession was subject to minimal regulation and was without self-governing institutions. This was in a context where lawyers face many challenges in carrying out their professional duties to defend the rights of their clients, including obstruction of their work. Lawyers play an essential role in any legal system in upholding the rule of law and protecting human rights; therefore the creation of the new Advokatura is as important for the whole legal system as it is for the legal profession itself. International standards on the role of lawyers recognise that 'adequate protection of the human rights and fundamental freedoms to which all persons are entitled, be they economic, social and cultural, or civil and political, requires that all persons have effective access to legal services provided by an independent legal profession.' They also recognise the importance of a strong and independent bar association, which can defend the rights of and uphold high ethical standards within the profession. This report analyses the main challenges facing the legal profession and the institutions of the new Advokatura at this crucial juncture. It does not provide a comprehensive analysis of all aspects of the legal framework and outstanding problems of legal practice in the Kyrgyz Republic, which would require a larger scale examination and analysis than is possible within the scope of this report. Rather, the purpose of the report is to set out the ICJ's recommendations on the issues that should be addressed as a matter of priority in order to lay the foundations for a strong Kyrgyz legal profession based on international law and standards on the independence of lawyers including the UN Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers."--Page 4.
