International Rider I - Foundation Horsemanship - The International Riding Academy offers four main levels of horsemanship. These levels are progressive and designed for riders 12 years and older, however there are open to riders of any age. Riders not yet ready for this program and try the Young Rider program with four easier levels. This program is not designed to replace a riding coach or instructor, rather to just aid in riding lessons. In fact, the program can help as a guideline in the coach's riding lesson program. As well, the levels give the student a proper horsemanship skill base and education in stable management.Graduates of the program can go on to become Stable Managers, Horse Trainers and Coaches! Each level consists of a Work book and informative DVDs. Testing is open book and all multiple choice. A passing grade is 60%. Mounted work is done by video testing and passing grade is 55%. There are several tests for each level, the majority will be theory tests and there will always be one riding theory test. Mounted videos are: Assessment, Flat and Gymnastic (except Rider I). Classical Horsemanship is the foundation of all disciplines, therefore it is also used as a base test for the levels, however not everyone enjoys English riding; therefore, there is also a Western option.A rider may use one to several horses for testing and there is no time limit. The rider just needs to be a current member and enrolled in the proper riding level class.Upon completion a rider will be issued a certificate.Tests can be sent in anytime. Riding tests are done once per semester with four semesters throughout the year. Danish award ribbons are awarded for each mounted test. The rider level program is closely structured to the theories of the four great riding schools of classical horsemanship, Vienna, Jerez, Lisbon and Saumur, as well as from some of the world's top riders of all time. The systemic levels increase in difficulty and intensity. Rider I is for all ages who wish to study ground work, safety and the riding basics that should not be skipped by even the experienced rider.Even though Rider I is the beginning stage of horsemanship and considered an introduction, it covers a lot of theory of the aids and gaits in order to set the rider's education for the next level up. Riders learn and show the basics of riding walk trot with some aids. The rider should have an independent seat and not balance on the horse's mouth. Riders must show safety skills and confidence in the saddle as well as on the ground. Sometimes the aid of a coach is allowed in the tests, however it must be predominantly the rider performing all tasks and issuing orders for how to help if need be, such as hold the halter, or help lift the saddle (should the rider by very small or young). But excessive coaching and outside interference is prohibited, especially in the Classical tests.Tack can vary in styles, but not be mixed and matched. For example, an English rider should use all English tack and attire.Rider clothing can be academic. Please, refer to the Disciplines for proper tack and attire. The horse's turn-out is important, however the horse does not need to be clipped or braided. An effort must be shown to have the horse clean and presentable.During the test a reader can call out directions. How Good Riders Get Good New Edition written by Denny Emerson and has been published by Trafalgar Square Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-05-01 with Sports & Recreation categories.

A revised edition of the inspiring bestseller, now in paperback with new good rider profiles! This book is exactly what you need to become a better rider. It's a smart, honest, on-target kick-in-the-pants, guaranteed to rev your engines as you see how a few changes in your life, a few smart choices and strategic moves, can transform you from a run-of-the-mill rider into a good one. How does Denny Emerson know what makes a good rider? For one thing, he is one—he is the only rider in the world to have won both a gold medal in international eventing and a Tevis Cup buckle in endurance. Plus, he's been around great riders, and taught those on their way to becoming great, for over 40 years. How will what Denny knows help you become a good rider? He's boiled the whole thing down into seven broad "Areas of Choice" that determine whether you are a "gonnabe" or whether you'll be stuck in the "wannabe" category for decades. Examine how your choice of riding sport may or may not be the best for who you are and where you live. Find out how those frustrating hurdles known as "life circumstances" don't necessarily hold you back like you think they do. Learn how to build a strong support team by winning people to your cause and choosing the right teachers and mentors. Analyze your physical self (your body, how it is formed and how you care for it) and your intellectual self (your "horse smarts" and how you are adding to them or not) and apply the results to your "gonna-be-good" equation. Take a good hard look at your partner—your horse—and think critically about his ability to help you attain your riding goals. Discover the nine key character traits of successful riders and how you can learn to call each one of them your own. Along the way you'll read the stories of 23 of the world's top riders from different disciplines and sports—including dressage, reining, driving, show jumping, endurance, hunter/jumper, and eventing—and how they "got good" despite the same kinds of challenges and setbacks you face in your own day-to-day riding. You'll get an inside look at their path to success, as well as their very best tips for how to "make it" in the horse industry.

A valuable, thought-provoking look at the best ways riders and horses can learn and improve together. Riding well can be a puzzle. This book puts together the pieces, including: How humans and horses learn. Striving for partnership vs. dictatorship. Early training and developing skills. Demystifying equestrian-speak. Dressage outside the arena. Ground poles for the rest of us. Jumping and cross-country tips. Solving problems, wherever you ride. Competition psychology. Being coached and being a coach. “This book is aimed at riders, coaches, and anyone interested in learning more about how humans and horses interact. I have tried to harness my own experiences when I cover the three main disciplines—dressage, show jumping, and eventing—and how they relate to one another. I look at how those in a coaching position can guide riders to perform better by making their lives less complicated and more fulfilling, and I examine how riders can apply the same principles to training their horses and become self-sufficient.” —Eric Smiley

Dressage For No Country written by Paul Belasik and has been published by Trafalgar Square Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-15 with Sports & Recreation categories.

In the 1970s, the sport of dressage was still in its infancy in the United States. Unlike the countries of Europe, there was neither an established tradition nor a written history to educate and inspire. A rider intent on learning the discipline had to be prepared to travel, to immerse himself in other cultures, and to care only for what those who had already mastered the art might teach him. Paul Belasik was this rider, intent on learning all he could about dressage methodology, and willing and able to compare and contrast the various means for achieving related goals: beautiful movement, “lightness,” connection between two beings. In these pages he shares a lifetime of searching and studying, both through stories of his own adventures and thoughtful essays on the subjects he has pondered during the years he has trained and ridden horses. Beginning in northern New York, and traveling to Portugal, and later, Vienna, Belasik serves as a tour guide of the various dressage “paths” he had the chance to explore, including the German system, the Portuguese art of equitation, and the revered institutions of the Spanish Riding School. Armed with the knowledge and experience he accrued over time, Belasik debates whether classical dressage and competition dressage are at all compatible. Then, he considers the role of mindfulness, how to become a good teacher, and how to be a good student in today's horse world, providing the guideposts needed to take dressage–and riding, in general–the next step forward.
