Ego Psychology And Communication written by Norman Polansky and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-29 with Psychology categories.

Writing in a lively straightforward tone and offering numerous examples, Polansky demonstrates that verbal communication plays a major role in mental health and is essential to preventing and curing emotional disorders. He shows why the inability to achieve effective speech reflects neurosis, interferes with self-healing potentials in the personality, and hampers patients in their efforts to make use of any of the talking therapies. He also makes clear how verbal expression leads to the growth of intimacy between people on a mature organized level and guards the individual against the existential anxiety of being completely alone in a potentially meaningless universe. Synthesizing basic theory that underlies skilled interviewing, the book serves as an introduction to ego psychology. It offers an appraisal of the role of verbal communication, especially in casework, individual therapy, and counseling, as well as in most group treatments situations. The author covers such topics as the resiliency of the ego, the logic of defenses, coping mechanisms, and the theory of object relations. He provides numerous illustrations of specific security and distance maneuvers found in everyday practice. He also describes techniques for dealing with these maneuvers by patients in face-to-face situations. This book is as vital to the field as when it first appeared in 1971. Polansky summarizes major concepts of modern ego psychology and relates them to what is known today about the process of verbal communication. It will be especially useful for those who seek to understand and treat the human personality through speech. Ego Psychology and Communication is designed for courses in social work, clinical psychology, educational counseling, guidance, and psychiatric nursing. Practitioners in social work, psychology, and psychiatry will find it to be a valuable addition to their personal reference libraries.

The First Interview With A Psychiatrist written by Charles Berg and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-26 with Psychology categories.

Originally published in 1955, the blurb read: 'Again in this book the author expounds his main thesis – perhaps the main thesis of all modern psychiatry – namely that our conscious pre-occupations, thoughts and behaviour are merely the products or "symptoms" of a process that is going on within us (basically a physiological process) of which we are totally unconscious. Although we are at pains to conceal from ourselves and others, and even vehemently to deny, the nature and the very existence of this fundamental unconscious process, it is nevertheless the determinant of all that is us, biologically, psychologically and sociologically. In the author’s own words: "It is the force behind all activity, all life. It exists unseen in the most apparently superficial human relationship, even in the interview – as this book will show. It alone can give us the meaning of what we do and feel." The theoretical section of the book deals with the interviewer and the unconscious forces which determine the effects and the therapeutic results of the interview. The longer practical section demonstrates, by abundant examples from clinical material and by complete documentaries of actual psychiatric interviews, that it is unconscious forces which determine the patient’s symptomatic picture, his behaviour, his attitude to life, and above all his emotional relationship to the psychiatrist – and indeed to everyone he meets in every personal contact. The elucidation of this process should be of the utmost interest and of the utmost practical value to each of us in our every contact, superficial or deep, with every human being whom we meet in the course of our lives. The book will appeal to a wide public. Although it demonstrates the deepest and most worthwhile aspect of modern psychology and psychiatry, it avoids technical jargon and is written in a cheerful, lively and lucid style, easily assimilable by everybody.' Today it can be read and enjoyed in its historical context. This book is a re-issue originally published in 1955. The language used is a reflection of its era and no offence is meant by the Publishers to any reader by this re-publication.

Now a Wall Street Journal bestseller. A top performance expert reveals the secret behind many top athletes and executives: creating a heroic alter ego to activate when the chips are down. There’s only one person in the way of you untapping your potential: You. There’s also one person who can move you out of the way so you can perform at your peak. That person is already inside you. You just need to unlock them. This other part of you is your Alter Ego. After twenty-one years of working with elite athletes, performers and leaders, Todd Herman has discovered how you can use your alter ego to achieve the seemingly impossible. It all clicked for Todd when he met Bo Jackson. When Herman met Bo Jackson, the professional athlete told him, “Bo Jackson never played a down of football in his entire life.” Bo explained that when he was young, he’d get into trouble because chaos caused by his anger issues. Then, he saw Friday the 13th and became fascinated by the cold, calculating nature of Jason Vorhees. In that moment, he resolved to stop being Bo Jackson, and start being Jason the moment he stepped on the field. In this transformative guide, Herman teaches you how to create and control an Alter Ego like Bo—and the thousands of other athletes, business leaders, entrepreneurs, and entertainers who have used this simple tool to change their lives. Herman also shares his own story: he knew that inside was a confident, self-assured, intelligent person who could help others get better results in their lives. When he started using superman’s classic trick—putting on a pair of glasses—he learned to trigger the specific traits he needed to achieve his goals. The Alter Ego Effect is not about creating a false mask—it’s about finding the hero already inside you. It’s a proven way of overcoming the self-doubt, negativity, and insecurity that hold you back, and empowering you to ultimately become your best self.
