Introduction To Optical Testing written by Joseph M. Geary and has been published by SPIE Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This volume in the SPIE Tutorial Text series presents a practical approach to optical testing, with emphasis on techniques, procedures, and instrumentation rather than mathematical analysis. The author provides the reader with a basic understanding of the measurements made and the tools used to make those measurements. Detailed information is given on how to measure and characterize imaging systems, perform optical bench measurements to determine first- and third-order properties of optical systems, set up and operate a Fizeau interferometer and evaluate fringe data, conduct beam diagnostics (such as wavefront sensing), and perform radiometric calibrations.

Introduction to Optical Metrology examines the theory and practice of various measurement methodologies utilizing the wave nature of light. The book begins by introducing the subject of optics, and then addresses the propagation of laser beams through free space and optical systems. After explaining how a Gaussian beam propagates, how to set up a collimator to get a collimated beam for experimentation, and how to detect and record optical signals, the text: Discusses interferometry, speckle metrology, moiré phenomenon, photoelasticity, and microscopy Describes the different principles used to measure the refractive indices of solids, liquids, and gases Presents methods for measuring curvature, focal length, angle, thickness, velocity, pressure, and length Details techniques for optical testing as well as for making fiber optic- and MEMS-based measurements Depicts a wave propagating in the positive z-direction by ei(ωt – kz), as opposed to ei(kz – ωt) Featuring exercise problems at the end of each chapter, Introduction to Optical Metrology provides an applied understanding of essential optical measurement concepts, techniques, and procedures.

Diffractive Optics written by Donald C. O'Shea and has been published by SPIE Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Science categories.

This book provides the reader with the broad range of materials that were discussed in a series of short courses presented at Georgia Tech on the design, fabrication, and testing of diffractive optical elements (DOEs). Although there are not long derivations or detailed methods for specific engineering calculations, the reader should be familiar and comfortable with basic computational techniques. This text is not a 'cookbook' for producing DOEs, but it should provide readers with sufficient information to assess whether this technology would benefit their work, and to understand the requirements for using the concepts and techniques presented by the authors.

Optics In Astrophysics written by Renaud Foy and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-01-14 with Science categories.

Astrophysics is facing challenging aims such as deep cosmology at redshift higher than 10 to constrain cosmology models, or the detection of exoplanets, and possibly terrestrial exoplanets, and several others. It requires unprecedented ambitious R&D programs, which have definitely to rely on a tight cooperation between astrophysics and optics communities. The book addresses most of the most critical interdisciplinary domains where they interact, or where they will do. A first need is to collect more light, i.e. telescopes still larger than the current 8-10 meter class ones. Decametric, and even hectometric, optical (from UV to IR wavelengths) telescopes are being studied. Whereas up to now the light collecting surface of new telescopes was approximately 4 times that of the previous generation, now this factor is growing to 10 to 100. This quantum leap urges to implement new methods or technologies developed in the optics community, both in academic labs and in the industry. Given the astrophysical goals and technological constraints, new generation adaptive optics with a huge number of actuators and laser guide stars devices have to be developed, from theoretical bases to experimental works. Two other newcomers in observational astrophysics are interferometric arrays of optical telescopes and gravitational wave detectors. Up-to-date reviews of detectors and of spectrographs are given, as well as forefront R&D in the field of optical coatings and of guided optics. Possible new ways to handle photons are also addressed, based on quantum physics. More and more signal processing algorithms are a part and parcel of any modern instrumentation. Thus finally the book gives two reviews about wavefront processing and about image restoration and deconvolution algorithms for ill conditioned cases.

Fiber Optic Test And Measurement written by Dennis Derickson and has been published by Prentice Hall this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998 with Science categories.

This is the most authoritative, complete source of test and measurement information for engineers who design and maintain fiber optic networks. This book presents measurement principles for characterizing all three basic components of a fiber optic communication system: the optical transmitter, fiber medium and optical receiver. It also covers system level measurements, and discusses the principles and limitations of current fiber optic testing equipment. It discusses testing to SONET/SDH international standards, and helps engineers choose the best approach to testing today's new erbium doped fiber amplifiers. The book provides detailed recommendations for understanding polarization states, and presents new methods for accurately characterizing the behavior of Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) fiber systems. It includes detailed coverage of testing fiber in the local loop, using optical power meters and optical time domain reflectometers. It also reviews the latest state-of-the-art 10 Gb/s systems, and even faster systems on the horizon. The coverage is practical, helping professionals accurately measure and test fiber optic systems without becoming experts in theory. All fiber optic engineers working with communications applications.
