The third edition of this text has been completely rewritten and revised. It is intended for first- and second-year undergraduates in chemistry taking physical chemistry courses, and for undergraduates in other science and engineering subjects that require an understanding of chemistry. The author gives more attention to the solid and liquid states than is found in other texts on this subject, and introduces topics such as computer simulation and quasicrystals. Each chapter concludes with a set of problems, to which there are solution notes, designed to lead the reader to familiarity with the subject and its application in new situations. Computer programs designed to assist the reader are downloadable from the World Wide Web, from the time of publication. Detailed solutions to the problems will also be available via the World Wide Web. See http://www.cup.cam.ac.uk/stm/laddsolutions.htm. This modern text on physical chemistry will be of interest to undergraduate students in chemistry and also students in other areas of science and engineering requiring a familiarity with the subject.

This book, intended for the undergraduate students, may also be used for a first chemistry course. The emphasis is on the concepts of physical chemistry and how to obtain quantitative relations from the concepts. Representative problems are included at the end of every chapter. To reduce the bulk, the book avoids experimental details that should be covered in laboratory manuals. Some aspects, such as wave mechanical model of the atom, molecular symmetry, chemical bonding and solid state chemistry that are inadequately covered by most text books at this level, are discussed in detail to give flavour of modern chemistry.

Introduction To Physical Chemistry written by M. F. C. Ladd and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1986-10-16 with Science categories.

This textbook presents a straightforward introduction to physical chemistry. Whilst stressing the fundamentals of the subject, it avoids the mathematical details of specialised techniques such as quantum theory, nuclear magnetic resonance, and spectroscopy. In order to promote an appreciation of 3-dimensional structure in the study of stereo-chemistry and solids, many of the illustrations are presented as stereoscopic views, and directions for observing them are given in an appendix. Each chapter ends with a set of problems of varying degrees of difficulty, which will assist the student in gaining familiarity with the themes of the book, and in testing their ability to apply these themes to new situations; full solutions are provided. The S1 system of units is used throughout and appendices serve as a useful reference source of numerical data. Some mathematical arguments are also developed in appendices, because their inclusion in the text might distract readers from the development of the subject. The book has been developed front an earlier publication by the authors entitled Modern Physical Chemistry, published by Penguin Books Ltd.

Introduction To Physical Chemistry written by James Walker and has been published by Forgotten Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-06-05 with Science categories.

Excerpt from Introduction to Physical Chemistry This book makes no pretension to give a complete or even systematic survey of Physical Chemistry; its main object is to be explanatory. I have found, in the course of ten years' experience in teaching the subject, that the average student derives little real benefit from reading the larger works which have hitherto been at his disposal, owing chiefly to his inability to effect a connection between the ordinary chemical knowledge he possesses and the new material placed before him. He keeps his everyday chemistry and his physical chemistry strictly apart, with the result that instead of obtaining any help from the new discipline in the comprehension of his descriptive or practical work, he merely finds himself cumbered with an additional burthen on the memory, which is to all intents and purposes utterly useless. This state of affairs I have endeavoured to remedy in the present volume by selecting certain chapters of Physical Chemistry and treating the subjects contained in them at some length, with a constant view to their practical application. In choice of subjects and mode of treatment I have been guided by my own teaching experience. I have striven to smooth, as far as may be, the difficulties that beset the student's path, and to point out where the hidden pitfalls lie. If I have been successful in my object, the student, after a careful perusal of this introductory text-book, should be in a position to profit by the study of the larger systematic works of Ostwald, Nernst, and van't Hoff.
