This text is designed for those who wish to study mathematics beyond linear algebra but are not ready for abstract material. Rather than a theorem-proof-corollary-remark style of exposition, it stresses geometry, intuition, and dynamical systems. An appendix explains how to write MATLAB, Mathematica, and C programs to compute dynamical systems. 1996 edition.

Qualitative Theory Of Dynamical Systems Tools And Applications For Economic Modelling written by Gian Italo Bischi and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-02 with Science categories.

The book presents the lectures delivered during a short course held at Urbino University in summer 2015 on qualitative theory of dynamical systems, included in the activities of the COST Action IS1104 “The EU in the new economic complex geography: models, tools and policy evaluation”. It provides a basic introduction to dynamical systems and optimal control both in continuous and discrete time, as well as some numerical methods and applications in economic modelling. Economic and social systems are intrinsically dynamic, characterized by interdependence, nonlinearity and complexity, and these features can only be approached using a qualitative analysis based on the study of invariant sets (equilibrium points, limit cycles and more complex attractors, together with the boundaries of their basins of attraction), which requires a trade-off between analytical, geometrical and numerical methods. Even though the early steps of the qualitative theory of dynamical systems have been in continuous time models, in economic and social modelling discrete time is often used to describe event-driven (often decision-driven) evolving systems. The book is written for Ph.D. and master’s students, post-doctoral fellows, and researchers in economics or sociology, and it only assumes a basic knowledge of calculus. However it also suggests some more advanced topics.

An Invitation To Mathematics written by Dierk Schleicher and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-05-19 with Mathematics categories.

This Invitation to Mathematics consists of 14 contributions, many from the world's leading mathematicians, which introduce the readers to exciting aspects of current mathematical research. The contributions are as varied as the personalities of active mathematicians, but together they show mathematics as a rich and lively field of research. The contributions are written for interested students at the age of transition between high school and university who know high school mathematics and perhaps competition mathematics and who want to find out what current research mathematics is about. We hope that it will also be of interest to teachers or more advanced mathematicians who would like to learn about exciting aspects of mathematics outside of their own work or specialization. Together with a team of young ``test readers'', editors and authors have taken great care, through a substantial ``active editing'' process, to make the contributions understandable by the intended readership.

Recent Advances In Control Problems Of Dynamical Systems And Networks written by Ju H. Park and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-11 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This edited book introduces readers to new analytical techniques and controller design schemes used to solve the emerging “hottest” problems in dynamic control systems and networks. In recent years, the study of dynamic systems and networks has faced major changes and challenges with the rapid advancement of IT technology, accompanied by the 4th Industrial Revolution. Many new factors that now have to be considered, and which haven’t been addressed from control engineering perspectives to date, are naturally emerging as the systems become more complex and networked. The general scope of this book includes the modeling of the system itself and uncertainty elements, examining stability under various criteria, and controller design techniques to achieve specific control objectives in various dynamic systems and networks. In terms of traditional stability matters, this includes the following special issues: finite-time stability and stabilization, consensus/synchronization, fault-tolerant control, event-triggered control, and sampled-data control for classical linear/nonlinear systems, interconnected systems, fractional-order systems, switched systems, neural networks, and complex networks. In terms of introducing graduate students and professional researchers studying control engineering and applied mathematics to the latest research trends in the areas mentioned above, this book offers an excellent guide.

An Introduction To Complex Systems written by Paul Fieguth and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-03 with Mathematics categories.

Complex Systems lie at the heart of a variety of large-scale phenomena of great significance - global warming, ice ages, water, poverty, pandemics - and this text uses these case studies as motivations and contexts to explore complex systems and related topics of nonlinear dynamics and power-law statistics. Although detailed mathematical descriptions of these topics can be challenging, the consequences of a system being nonlinear, power-law, or complex are in fact quite accessible. This book blends a tutorial approach to the mathematical aspects of complex systems together with a complementary narrative on the global/ecological/societal implications of such systems. Nearly all engineering undergraduate courses focus on mathematics and systems which are small scale, linear, and Gaussian. Unfortunately there is not a single large-scale ecological or social phenomenon that is scalar, linear, and Gaussian. This book offers insights to better understand the large-scale problems facing the world and to realize that these cannot be solved by a single, narrow academic field or perspective. Instead, the book seeks to emphasize understanding, concepts, and ideas, in a way that is mathematically rigorous, so that the concepts do not feel vague, but not so technical that the mathematics get in the way. The book is intended for students in technical domains such as engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, and environmental studies. This second edition adds nine new examples, over 30 additional problems, 50 additional figures, and three new chapters offering a detailed study of system decoupling, extensive solutions to chapter problems, and a timely discussion on the complex systems challenges associated with COVID-19 and pandemics in general.
