The act of forgiveness is not something that comes easily to most of us. Too often we become angry or judgmental instead of forgiving others. It can be difficult to remember we have all made mistakes or done things we regret, and we would want to be forgiven in turn. Alexander Pope famously wrote, “To err is human; to forgive, divine.” It is that divinity that Jesus Christ embodies and to which so many aspire. Jesus’s message is one of forgiving anyone, and he lived by that same principle, providing an example to all. Jesus on Forgiveness contains quotes and wisdom from the teachings and ministrations of Jesus Christ as he communed with the people around him, stressing the need for sincere graciousness and letting go of the desire for revenge. His gentle words encouraging a spirit of forgiveness toward even those who have done us the most harm can inspire and touch people of any faith, Christian or otherwise. “Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, ‘Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.’” (Matthew 18:21–22)

Forgiveness: The Key to Overcoming, Progressing, and Succeeding Gregory Calliste, PhD (Dr. C) In this book, Forgiveness: The Key to Overcoming, Progressing, and Succeeding, the godly principle of forgiveness and its benefits and consequences are demonstrated. These are good outcomes that most people hope for but which unfortunately not enough people achieve. Many people seem to be struggling and failing, unable to progress and succeed in spite of their tremendous effort and dedication, frustrated, discouraged, and ready to give up. The key may hinge on one simple word: forgiveness. God has commanded that we “forgive others as we want to be forgiven,” “do not repay evil for evil,” because “vengeance is mine (God), I shall repay.” The biblical principle of forgiveness is stressed in the Old and New Testaments, and numerous examples are cited to illustrate God’s rewards for those who obey this command to forgive. Conversely, numerous examples are also cited that demonstrate God’s punishment for those who ignore his command and inflict their own punishment on their adversaries. The author, Dr. C, has showed how his decisions to obey God’s command to forgive others unconditionally has produced positive results for him and negative consequences and even serious punishment for his opponents because he forgave them and left vengeance to God. He uses his personal experiences as president/chief executive officer of a hospital several years ago to illustrate this amazing phenomenon. In spite of his tremendous success at improving that hospital, four members of the board of directors, his bosses, conspired and tried to terminate him. The coup failed and their efforts were unsuccessful because of God’s intervention. Instead of having the normal reaction to retaliate, he forgave them fully. The resultant rewards for his obedience makes a convincing case for choosing forgiving over avenging. The misfortunes of the board and hospital after he left that organization reinforce his conclusion that God’s punishment is much more potent than man’s when we forgive and leave vengeance up to God. Dr. C acknowledges that he is a “fighter” by nature so his initial reaction is always to fight back, be assertive, respect all, and demand respect from all. So to him forgiveness was not easy, and to change that character, he really had to go beyond his human strength and depend totally on God. But forgiveness worked for him as it did for so many biblical characters, and he is enjoying the benefits of overcoming, progressing, and succeeding because of his obedience to forgive. By profession, Dr. C is a hospital executive with over thirty years of senior administrative experience, which includes executive positions in private not-for-profit, for-profit, and public hospitals in New York, New Orleans, and the Caribbean. He also taught business and health administration as an adjunct professor for over fifteen years at several colleges and universities in New York. His academic credentials include a doctor of philosophy (PhD), master of business administration (MBA), master of science (MS), bachelor of arts (BA), Certified Healthcare Executive, etc. He has always had a gift and love for writing. His writing career actually started in 2008, after the incident described in this book, which actually prompted the writing of this book, poems, and songs. To date he has written over seventy poems and songs that focus on God’s message of love, peace, joy, and forgiveness and which also uplift the name and teachings of Jesus Christ. Dr. C truly believes that we ought to obey Jesus’s command to love and forgive each other as God loves and forgives us in spite of our shortcomings.

"The greatest measuring rod of love in the life of a Christian may be forgiveness, because God showed His love to us in terms of forgiveness." ?John MacArthur Does anyone really want to forgive? Or admit that we need forgiveness? Whether we're giving or receiving, forgiveness is hard. It seems unfair. It feels unnatural. And as best-selling author and pastor John MacArthur demonstrates, forgiveness apart from Christ is unnatural. It is only as we understand our need, Christ's power and example, and what it reallly means to love that we can embrace two of the most liberating acts of love: forgiving and being forgiven. The Truth About Series For decades MacArthur has encouraged countless Christians to develop a deeper understanding of the Bible and a greater respect for God's truth. In The Truth About series, he now gathers his landmark teachings about core aspects of the Christian faith in one place. These powerful books are designed to give readers a focused experience that centers on God's character and how it applies to their daily walk of faith.

The forgiver, the bearer, must know their standing in Christ and say, "I am here, I am the one who has received this wrong, but I am the one who must allow Jesus to deal with it in me." This book takes the command of Jesus to forgive seriously and realistically. It is quite common to hear Christians say that they long to be like Christ, but when it comes to forgiveness the desire for that likeness seems to wane. To be like Christ is to receive the orientation of His heart. If a person wants to be as Christ in this world full on sin's brokenness we must be willing to allow Him to pour His love into our hearts so that we might bear those who offend us in our hearts. The process, the bearing and the openness which forgiveness comprises is no mere transaction. It is a sharing in the very bearing of the heart of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING: "How encouraging to see a theologian who maintains that interpersonal relations are determinative factors in one's Christian life. Ury turns to Jesus to make his case. The texts he uses will probably be surprising to many readers. An honest look at the questions, implicit and explicit, raised by Jesus will give the Holy Spirit an opportunity to give the reader a good push toward that personal holiness without which, according to the Bible, one cannot see God. Give this a try. It will be worth it." Dr. Dennis F. Kinlaw President, Francis Asbury Society Past President, Asbury College "Within the human experience nothing is more obvious than our need for forgiveness. Yet, I suspect, few subjects are less understood. Bill Ury, a scholar with rare spiritual sensitivity, comes to grips with its meaning in this book. He writes from the heart with penetrating insight and compassion. It is a soul-searching, refreshing read." Dr. Robert E. Coleman Distinguished Professor of Evangelism and Discipleship Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary

Recover the true beauty of Christianity as found in forgiveness. If Christianity is to be a compelling and relevant voice in the twenty-first century, it needs a fresh message. Not a new innovation or novel interpretation, but a return to our roots. For if Christianity is not about forgiveness, it’s about nothing at all. Beginning with the horror of the Holocaust, Radical Forgiveness explores what forgiveness means--and how far it should go--in the real world of rape, child abuse, genocide, and other atrocities. With honesty and compassion Zahnd tackles questions such as... Should we always forgive? Is forgiveness always even possible? Does forgiveness enable evil? Does it sacrifice justice? Are there ANY limits? Pushing you beyond intellectual exercises, Radical Forgiveness will challenge your thinking by juxtaposing absolutely bottom-line examples with the simple question: What would you do? Previously published as Unconditional?
