Sermons Of A Psychiatrist written by Charles Fulghum and has been published by AuthorHouse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-03-03 with Religion categories.

This book puts psychiatrist/priest Fulghum solidly in the company of Soren Kierkegaard, Irvin Yalom, and (I would add) Ernest Becker: existential realists with indomitable faith. Jesus issued two orders to those he called. The first was Come! The second was, Go!This little book does what Jesus did, again and again. Fulghums candid humanity beckons us to come, to recognize ourselves both more deeply and (briefly) more comfortably. And he sends us out relentlessly. This book is risky. Deep insight is not only a personal pleasureit rapidly emerges as responsibility. The Rev. Canon Gray Temple Retired Rector, St. Patricks Episcopal Church, Atlanta. Charles has put together an anthology of his sermons that promises to deliver perhaps one of the most unique perspectives in Episcopal preaching. Having listened in the pews to many of Charles sermons I can promise that the reader will not only be entertained but will discover God found living betwixt and between moral psychiatry, existentialism and medical science. In the best of the Episcopal tradition Charles makes us think about God in relevant and thought provoking ways by reminding us that our stories are part of of a much bigger narrative. > > >The Rev. The goal of this book is to help change misconceptions that have historically pervaded Christianity by educating both laity and clergy about serious mental illness. It will accomplish this goal via an in-depth, exegetic examination of biblical accounts of what may have been untreated serious mental illness from the perspective of a psychiatrist and Christian. This in-depth examination will demonstrate that 1) serious mental illness was likely present and relatively common in biblical times, and similar in phenomenology to how it manifests today, and 2) that some instances of demon-possession and exorcisms as described in the Bible could, in a post-Enlightenment narrative, be better explained by occurring in the context of untreated mental illness, and that this could reveal a great deal of information about the biblical view of mental illness. Some of these accounts are from the Old Testament and some from the New Testament. Each essay will provide an in-depth examination of the biblical account from the perspective of a board-certified psychiatrist who is an expert in the field of serious mental illness and who is also a practicing Christian.

Imagine Imagine someone with a mind so healthy that he doesn’t need to see a psychiatrist. Ever. Yet that person runs the gauntlet of taunting, mockery and false accusations. People turn against him. Friends disown and desert him. He stands alone. Amazingly, two thousand years after his death, the taunts still fly. Films and books appear with fresh accusations and oh-so-convincing arguments. How can this man be discredited and silenced for once and for all? More to the point, can he? As psychiatrists, we need to speak up. Enough is enough. Shadow us as we examine what we believe to be the most fascinating mind in all of history. Dare you imagine a different reality? And what will this mean in practice? Jesus had greater influence than any other person who ever lived. Yet atheistic detractors often portray him as insane or deranged. Claims gather momentum. Often they are left unchallenged. Is there any basis for such claims? The authors, respected psychiatrists, consider Jesus's words, actions and teaching, and use fascinating insights from psychiatry to make an assessment. We need confidence to weigh up the evidence and reach robust conclusions. The authors enable us to articulate a strong defence of Jesus's mental health. They help us dispel doubts, affirm our faith and present a captivating portrait of Jesus. Foreword by John Lennox Part 1 Showing that Jesus was not mentally ill 1 The mind of Christ through a psychiatrist's eye 2 Out of his mind - was Jesus psychotic? 3 A man of sorrows - did Jesus suffer from any other mental disorder? Part 2 Showing that Jesus had a health mind, proved by the coherence of his words and deeds 4 The test of his character - and the crowds were amazed 5 The test of a consistent life - what evil has he done? I find no crime in him 6 The test of meaningful relationships - encounters that transformed lives 7 The test of adversity - lessons without words in suffering 8 The test of influence - his power to change people Epilogue The test of his claims - who do you say I am?

Healings and miracles play a prominent role in the New Testament accounts of Jesus' life and ministry. In the Western Christian tradition, however, Jesus' works of healing tend to be downplayed and understood as little more than a demonstration of his divine power. In this book Jan-Olav Henriksen and Karl Olav Sandnes draw on both contemporary systematic theology and New Testament scholarship to challenge and investigate the reasons for that oversight. They constructively consider what it can mean for Christian theology today to understand Jesus as a healer, to embrace fully the embodied character of the Christian faith, and to recognize the many ways in which God can still be seen to have a healing presence in the world.

The Life Of Jesus As A Religious Paranoic written by Francis G. Johann and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-01 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

This life of the historical Jesus is based on the diagnoses of three psychiatrists in the first decades of the 20th century. They agreed that Jesus's words and actions reflected those of a religious paranoic. These courageous rationalists were attacked by two Jesus apologists, Dr. Albert Schweitzer and Dr. Walter Bundy, a psychiatrist, who insulted his three colleagues as "amateurs." Intimidated by the potential attacks of Christian apologists such as Schweitzer and Bundy, psychiatrists the world over silenced the topic of Jesus's insanity. For 100 years, not one psychiatrist has had the courage to inform Christians that they were worshiping a man who had suffered from insanity. This biography of Jesus portrays the chronological development of Jesus's paranoic symptoms from the moment they were triggered in his baptism by John the Baptist until his megalomania induced him to make the fatal mistake of entering Jerusalem as the Messiah. Thanks to three psychiatrists, each one working independently, the pieces of the Jesus puzzle now form a plausible and authenticated portrait of the life of the historical Jesus. Although his book was rejected by over 200 literary agents and publishers, the author has succeeded in penetrating the iron curtain of censorship imposed by the many Jesus apologists who dominate the publishing and psychiatric fields by self-publishing his book This is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most provocative and, controversial books published about Jesus and Christianity in this decade.
