“The third edition of Reflective Practice depicts the concept of ‘reimagining’ in such a brilliant way and is a must-have resource for nurses.” –Portia Janine Jordan, PhD, MBA, MCUR, RN, FANSA Professor, Department of Nursing and Midwifery Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Stellenbosch University “This incredible edition of a professional masterpiece pulls together global leaders, creative thinkers, entrepreneurs, educators, and practitioners to support and guide us as healthcare professionals. A joy to read and a must-read for all professionals who are reflexive.” –Thomas Kearns, EdD, MEd, BNS, RGN, RPN, RNT, FAAN, FFNMRCSI Past Executive Director (Dean), Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dublin Co-Director, Global Innovation and Leadership Academy, Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, RCSI “In this outstanding book, Sara Horton-Deutsch and Gwen Sherwood provide an invaluable resource for nurse educators and their students. Reflective Practice: Reimagining Ourselves, Reimagining Nursing takes a complex topic and makes it accessible for learners across all levels. This should be required reading in all nursing programs!” –Pamela R. Jeffries, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF, FSSH Dean of Nursing, Valere Potter Professor of Nursing Vanderbilt School of Nursing A nurse’s work is multifaceted, medically complex, technically precise, and physically demanding. But nursing—the act of caring—is also social, emotional, impactful, and personal. Because nursing education programs prioritize the importance of the technical and physical aspects of nursing, that is what they teach. This leaves practicing nurses poorly equipped to understand the science of caring and unprepared for the constant stream of emotional and psychological stressors that come with this profoundly important work. The unintended consequences of this omission include burnout, toxic work environments, and exodus from the profession. In this highly anticipated and particularly timely third edition of Reflective Practice, authors Sara Horton-Deutsch and Gwen Sherwood invite readers to reflect, recalibrate, reimagine, rethink, and reframe the work of nursing care and their various roles and relationships within it. This book focuses first on the individual, then practice settings, and finally systems and communities while providing supporting theoretical frameworks, practical applications, and opportunities for personal and shared reflection along the way. Reflective Practice guides nurses to emotional and psychological fulfillment in all aspects of care.

The outbreak of the Coronavirus in early 2020 resulted in unprecedented changes to health professions education. The pervasive stay-at-home orders resulted in faculty, who were trained for preparing the next generation of health professionals in a traditional learning environment, throwing out their lesson plans and starting anew. New approaches to teaching and learning were created quickly, and without the typical extensive planning, which introduced several challenges. However, lessons learned from these approaches have also resulted in increased technology adoption, innovative assessment strategies, and increased creativity in the learning environment. The Handbook of Research on Updating and Innovating Health Professions Education: Post-Pandemic Perspectives explores the various teaching and learning strategies utilized during the pandemic and the innovative approaches implemented to evaluate student learning outcomes and best practices in non-traditional academic situations and environments. The chapters focus specifically on lessons learned and best practices in health professions education and the innovative and exciting changes that occurred particularly with the adoption and implementation of technology. It provides resources and strategies that can be implemented into the current educational environments and into the future. This book is ideal for inservice and preservice teachers, administrators, teacher educators, practitioners, medical trainers, medical professionals, researchers, academicians, and students interested in curriculum, course design, development of policies and procedures within academic programs, and the identification of best practices in health professions education.

Justice In Health written by Camille Burnett and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-26 with Medical categories.

Inequities and health disparities are the greatest and most pressing social issues of our time. This book explores public health practice through the critical lens of social and structural justice by examining our approach to health and what it means to be healthy, systemically and structurally. Through recent events, the raw reality of health disparities and inequities have been exposed. These events are earmarked by COVID-19's decimating and disparate impacts on Black and Brown populations during one of the greatest social movements of our time to end racism. Since this very public explosion of intersecting forms of oppression and inequitable suffrage, many have clamored to make sense of it, to reframe our narratives toward action, and re-envision what progress and change could look like. This text is positioned as a tool to help professionals dismantle old ways of thinking while reconstructing new ones that can be more responsive in meeting the realities of today. The author challenges the reader to think about public health more deeply and pragmatically as the space for reconciling solutions to these poignant health issues. This requires the exploration of an ideological shift in how we think of health, how we prepare healthcare providers outside of an antiquated sick care system, and how we prioritize the determinants of health across a re-imagined continuum of care. The scope of this book ranges from a historical and structural examination of our beliefs about health to perceiving a more just system of care where health is intentionally co-created toward this aim. It intentionally explores health along the lines of equity and through the broader lens of the social determinants of health to shed light on the opportunity in this moment that public health creates for health care. Justice in Health is a timely and important resource for healthcare professionals (pre- and post-licensure) and healthcare decision-makers. The book also appeals more widely to instructors, academics, researchers, and students across disciplines of nursing, medicine, public heath, sociology, and social work.

Despite significant demand for healthcare professionals in the workforce, admission to health professional graduate programs is highly competitive with less than half of all medical school applicants gaining admission annually. The application process is nuanced, complex, and costly, which can often be a significant barrier to otherwise highly qualified students, particularly those from backgrounds underrepresented in the healthcare workforce. Further understanding of the best practices in navigating the application processes, academia, and professional development is crucial for those advising pre-health students. The Handbook of Research on Advising and Developing the Pre-Health Professional Student considers current practices and research regarding academic and extracurricular preparation of undergraduate students who wish to enter health professions and offers new pre-health professional advisors as well as more seasoned advisors and other administrators a resource to assist them in their professional journey. Covering a range of topics such as advisor relationships and lifelong learning skills, this major reference work is ideal for advisors, healthcare professionals, academicians, researchers, practitioners, scholars, instructors, and students.
