A brave and beautiful story that will make readers laugh, and break their hearts at the same time. Now with a special note from the author! Steven has a totally normal life (well, almost). He plays drums in the All-City Jazz Band (whose members call him the Peasant), has a crush on the hottest girl in school (who doesn't even know he's alive), and is constantly annoyed by his younger brother, Jeffrey (who is cuter than cute - which is also pretty annoying). But when Jeffrey gets sick, Steven's world is turned upside down, and he is forced to deal with his brother's illness, his parents' attempts to keep the family in one piece, his homework, the band, girls, and Dangerous Pie (yes, you'll have to read the book to find out what that is!).

The pleasures of kindness have been well known since the dawn of western thought. Kindness, declared Marcus Aurelius, was mankind's 'greatest delight' - and centuries-worth of thinkers and writers have echoed him. But today many people seem to find these pleasures literally incredible. Instead of embracing the benefits of altruism, as a species we seem to be becoming deeply and fundamentally antagonistic to each other, with motives that are generally self-seeking. This book explains how and why this has come about, and argues that the affectionate life - a life lived in instinctive sympathetic identification with the vulnerabilities and attractions of others - is the one we should all be inclined to live. 'We mutually belong to one another,' as the philosopher Alan Ryan writes, and the good life is one 'that reflects this truth'. What the Victorians called 'open-heartedness' and the Christians 'caritas' remains essential to our emotional and mental health, for reasons both obvious and hidden, argue the authors of this elegant and indispensable exploration of the concept of kindness.

FloweTry is a book for anyone who has ever been frustrated with life and/or love or longed for a better relationship with the Lord. If you fall into any or all of these categories, this book is for you. Life. Life is filled with and impacted by family, friends, community, and politics. Each poem will take you on a reflective journey through different points in your life. The term family is used loosely as friends and community members are often family too. Hopefully these poems will warm your heart when you come across the ones that apply to you. Some of the politically themed poems are rooted in Black history, so the actual past is not a mystery. Love. Love is beautiful, painful, and messy all at the same time. I highly recommend love despite it having its highs and lows. The poems here are both pro- and antilove, so get ready for the entertaining ride. Liturgical. There is often a still, quiet voice within your soul whispering to you. Did you know that voice belongs to the Lord? It is the Holy Spirt. God is still speaking to us in this day and age; we just need to open our spiritual eye and ear to see and hear Him. It is all right to allow the Lord to do something new in you. Sometimes we wake or walk with a new melody or lyrics in our spirit and do not know where they come from. Well, I now believe I do. It is the Holy Spirit doing something new. We just need to yield to it and go with the flow. It might not always be great or perfect, but it can be fun to just go with the flow and give praise to God with whatever comes out of your mouth, your new song. May you relax, relate, and release as you enjoy this section of poetic, heartfelt FloweTry.

The Limits Of Kindness written by Caspar Hare and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Philosophy categories.
Caspar Hare presents a novel approach to questions of what we ought to do, and why we ought to do it. The traditional way to approach this subject is to begin by supposing a foundational principle, and then work out its implications. Consequentialists say that we ought to make the worldimpersonally better, for instance, while Kantian deontologists say that we ought to act on universalizable maxims. And contractualists say that we ought to act in accordance with the terms of certain hypothetical contracts. These principles are all grand and controversial. The motivating idea behindThe Limits of Kindness is that we can tackle some of the most difficult problems in normative ethics by starting with a principle that is humble and uncontroversial. Being moral involves wanting particular other people to be better off. From these innocuous beginnings, Hare leads us to surprising conclusions about how we ought to resolve conflicts of interest, whether we ought to create some people rather than others, what we ought to want in an infinite world, when we ought to make sacrifices for the sake of needy strangers, andwhy we cannot, on pain of irrationality, attribute great importance to the boundaries between people.

Weakness A Literary And Philosophical History written by Michael O'Sullivan and has been published by A&C Black this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-05-24 with Literary Criticism categories.
Examining the nature of weakness has inspired some of the most influential aesthetic and philosophical portraits of the human condition. By reading a selection of canonical literary and philosophical texts, Michael O'Sullivan charts a history of responses to the experience and exploration of weakness. Beginning with Plato and Aristotle, this first book-length study of the concept explores weakness as it is interpreted by Lao Tzu, Nietzsche, Derrida, the Romantics, Dickens and the Modernists. It examines what feminist writers Simone de Beauvoir and Luce Irigaray have made of the gendered biomythology constructed around the figure of the "weaker vessel" and it considers related notions such as im-potentiality, a "syntax of weakness" and human vulnerability in the work of Agamben, Beckett and Coetzee. Through analysis of these differing versions of weakness, O'Sullivan's study challenges the popular myth that aligns masculine identity with strength and force and presents a humane weakness as a guiding motif for debates in ethics.

Kindness In Leadership written by Gay Haskins and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-09 with Business & Economics categories.
In a global climate of increasing complexity and uncertainty, there have been calls for a more responsible form of leadership in business and society. The relationship between kindness and leadership is therefore a topic of fundamental importance for our well-being as individuals, for the success of our organisations, and for the future of our global community. Kindness in Leadership is one of the first books to explore both the concept and practice of kindness in leadership and consider them in different societal and organisational settings. Its uniqueness lies in combining an innovative mix of personal views from leaders with explorations of organisational philosophies and practices. It opens with a definition of kindness and its contours and underpinnings. It then explores the importance of kindness within different organisations, parts of the world, economic strata, age groups and genders, drawing on research on organisational compassion and neuroscience. In order to support learning, each chapter is supported by a series of questions for consideration and discussion. This will be a stimulating and thought-provoking read for a wide audience of practicing managers and leaders in organisations of all shapes and sizes, for academics involved in educating for leadership, and for students aspiring to develop their own kind and compassionate leadership style.
