Ziel der Arbeit ist es, anhand von empirischem lexikalischen Material in einer soziolinguistischen Perspektive die mit dem politischen, wirtschaftlichen und gesellschaftlichen Umbruch 1989 einhergehenden Phänomene des Sprachwandels und die sprachlichen Neuerungen des Polnischen zu untersuchen. Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Sprache des öffentlichen Diskurses, d.h. mit dem Sprachgebrauch in den Medien (Presse, Fernsehen, Rundfunk und Netz) sowie mit der Sprache der jungen Literatur, der Theaterstücke, der Filmdialoge und der Werbungsslogans. Anhand der Analyse zahlreicher einzelner Textbelege aus einer differenzierten Quellenbasis wird die Hauptthese der Arbeit, die zugleich die Hauptentwicklungstendenz des Polnischen nach der Wende beschreibt, bewiesen: Die substandardliche Varietät der Umgangssprache ist zur wichtigsten Quelle von Entlehnungen innerhalb des Sprachsystems geworden, was zu einem triumphalen Einzug der umgangssprachlichen Lexik mit ihren niedrigsten Sprachregistern in alle Bereiche der öffentlichen Kommunikation führt.

Milan Kundera stawia trudne pytania o tożsamość Europy Środkowej, miotającej się między Wschodem i Zachodem, przepychanej raz w jedną, raz w drugą stronę – pytania, które mimo upływu wielu lat wciąż niestety wydają się niezwykle aktualne. Ten opublikowany po raz pierwszy w 1983 w piśmie „Le Débat” esej, który został przełożony na wszystkie europejskie języki, jest jednocześnie apelem i oskarżeniem: ü Apelem w obronie Europy Środkowej, która dzięki swojej tradycji kulturalnej od zawsze i w całości należała do Zachodu, lecz którą tenże dostrzegał jedynie przez pryzmat jej ustroju politycznego – co czyniło z niej część bloku wschodniego. ü Oskarżeniem, gdyż tragedia tego domu „małych narodów” świadomych swojej kruchości jest w istocie tragedią samej Europy, która nie chciała jej dostrzegać i która nawet nie zauważyła, że „małe narody” zniknęły. Czyż nie było to oznaką jej własnego zniknięcia? Skromny pod względem liczby stron utwór nie zawdzięcza swojej wyjątkowej wartości jedynie przekonującej argumentacji, lecz również niezwykle osobistemu, żarliwemu i zatrwożonemu głosowi Milana Kundery, jednego z największych pisarzy europejskich. W książce zamieszczono przemówienie młodego Kundery na Zjeździe Pisarzy Czechosłowackich w roku 1967, w pełni Praskiej Wiosny, poprzedzone wstępem politologa Jacques Rupnika, a także przedmowę historyka Pierre'a Nory.

Dieses Buch ist den Internationalismen in der Fachsprache der Kulinaristik gewidmet. 681 solcher Internationalismen im Deutschen, Polnischen, Englischen, Spanischen und Russischen wurden im Hinblick auf ihre Inhalts- und Ausdrucksseite überprüft. Die semantische Analyse hat bewiesen, dass sie weitgehend äquivalent, aber nicht deckungsgleich sind. Die einzelsprachlichen Vertreter einiger Internationalismen weisen diasystematische Unterschiede auf und wurden als «falsche Freunde» klassifiziert. Wie die Untersuchung der deutschen, polnischen, spanischen und englischen Pendants auf der graphematischen Ebene ergeben hat, sind nur wenige Internationalismen in allen vier Sprachen in ihrem Schriftbild identisch. Die anderen sind in verschiedenem Grad an die Systemregeln der jeweiligen Nehmersprachen assimiliert worden. Betont wird in der Arbeit auch der besondere Stellenwert der Internationalismen für den Fremdsprachenunterricht.
