We współczesnej rzeczywistości zdziczenia obyczajów, upadków autorytetów, dominacji „kultury” przemocy i agresji, potrzeba nam, jak nigdy dotąd wyważonej, spokojnej refleksji nad naszą codziennością edukacyjną. Potrzeba nam spojrzenia na dzisiejszą szkołę oczyma pedagoga praktyka, nauczyciela zorientowanego antropologicznie, osoby, której na sercu leży kultura życia codziennego, szczególnie kultura szkoły. Taką osobą jest Autor recenzowanej pracy. Muszę wyznać, że z dużym zainteresowaniem przestudiowałem dostarczony mi tekst, który nie nuży czytelnika, lecz wprost przeciwnie, w miarę upływu czasu coraz bardziej przyciąga jego uwagę. Nie da się przeprowadzić skutecznej reformy systemu bez uwzględnienia norm i zachowań uczniów, sposobów zagospodarowania przestrzeni szkolnej, rytuałów życia szkolnego czy wreszcie języka uczniowskiego – które to elementy tworzą obraz kultury szkoły. In the last twenty years there has been an explosion of scholarly interest in the Military Orders. With a history stretching from the early twelfth century to the present day, they were among the richest and most powerful orders of the church in medieval Europe. They founded their own states in Prussia and on the Mediterranean islands of Rhodes and Malta. They are of concern to historians of the Church, art and architecture, government, agriculture, estate management, banking, medicine and warfare, and of the expansion of Europe overseas. The conferences on their history, which have been organized in London every four years, have attracted leading scholars from all over the world. The present volume records the proceedings of the Third Conference in 2000 and is essential reading for those interested in the progress of research on these extraordinary institutions. Of the thirty papers published in this collection, two deal with the orders in general, while eighteen concentrate on the Hospital of St John, six on the Temple, and three on the Teutonic Order, together with another on the Order of the Sword Brothers which it absorbed. The preponderance of works on the Hospitallers is perhaps a particular characteristic of this volume, but the fact that most of the papers relate to provincial life, rather than to the headquarters in the east, Prussia, or Malta, accurately reflects modern concerns, as do the contributions on historiography, the papacy, cultural history, and religious life. Examples of new research interests are the paper on bioarchaeology and the two on liturgy.

Książka jest pracą pionierską, po raz pierwszy bowiem podjęto próbę porównania związanych z postępem i modernizacją zjawisk zachodzących w tych dwóch, na pierwszy rzut oka, obcych sobie kulturowo i historycznie krajach. Teza, którą Autorka z powodzeniem udowadnia, brzmi: „modele kultury rosyjskiej i irańskiej wykazują podobieństwa typologiczne, a reakcja obydwu kultur na zderzenie z modernizacją jest determinowana przez wewnętrzne mechanizmy rozwoju i ochrony tożsamości kulturowej w dużo większym stopniu niż przez czynniki zewnętrzne". Niezwykle ciekawe dla filologów, a także dla kulturoznawców są tu refleksje Autorki nad znaczeniami słów, używanych przez grupy kulturotwórcze, refleksje na temat istoty języka i jego miejsca w systemie kultury, a także konstatacja, iż zetknięcie się kultur rosyjskiej i irańskiej z modernizacją zainicjowało zmiany w sferze wyobrażeń na temat rzeczywistości. Z recenzji dr hab. Kingi Maciuszak, prof. UJ Zarówno cel badań, jak i podporządkowane mu zadania badawcze wskazują na oryginalne i twórcze podejście do podjętej w rozprawie problematyki. Oryginalne jej ujęcie zostało dodatkowo wyeksponowane poprzez wprowadzenie perspektywy „przekładu kultur" - przejmowania znaków i związanych z nimi treści określonego obszaru kulturowego przez inną kulturę oraz związane z tego typu transgresją problemy. Ze względu na złożoność poruszanej w pracy problematyki, cel badawczy oraz wynikające z niego zadania Autorka posłużyła się kryteriami semiotyki oraz antropologii kulturowej i aksjologicznej, które osadziła na gruncie historii kultury. This book addresses the complex socioeconomic situation in the Polish-Ukrainian borderland, in the context of the labour market, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It analyses and assesses the measures which influence the process of Ukrainian war refugees’ adaptation to the Polish labour market, surveying the engagement of local actors, such as employers, labour market institutions and nongovernmental organisations. It examines the impact of the refugee crisis on this market, as well as mobilisation of various groups of actors in order to support this specific group of migrants in adapting to life in Poland. The authors argue that this phenomenon of the migration of war refugees confirms the thesis that political instability can be a factor in pushing people abroad as equally important as inequalities in prosperity. The book identifies the characteristic features of the stream of war refugees from Ukraine as a category of cross-border flows. Before the Russian attack, the influx of Ukrainians to Poland was due mainly to economic pressures, whereas, after the outbreak of war, Ukrainians’ motivation to cross the border with Poland as well as the structure of this migration stream have radically changed. The book offers in-depth insight into the development of borderland regions, and especially the cross-border labour market as a specific element of the borderland economic ecosystem. It highlights the positive outcomes of the migration crisis, which will serve as examples of best practice for other regions in Europe. This book will be of interest to scholars, researchers and policymakers concerned with regional development, including contact regions, as well as cross-border flows, the labour market and migration.
