Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Pedagogy - School System, Educational and School Politics, grade: 3, language: English, abstract: This study explored the causes of pupil dropout from primary school in Busulani sub county Budadiri East Sironko District. It sought to find out the rates of dropouts, which level of primary school was dropout highest, which causes affected which sex, and the ratios of male dropout to female dropouts. Methods of data collection were questionnaires, interviews and analysis of class registers and statistical returns to Ministry of Education. The findings of the study indicate that there are various causes of dropout. Among them poverty was the highest. Other causes identified were: age of pupils, poor academic performance, employment, teacher pupil relationships, peer pressure and other school related factors such as no provision of lunch and poor structures. From the findings the researcher concluded that the scope and magnitude of primary pupil dropout is not as alarming as portrayed. There was also a lot of manipulation of enrolment figures by headteachers. In short, the figures reflected are not real. Recommendations focus on provision of scholastic materials consistency in school policies, minimization of punishments and a need to do a way with promotional examinations. The study shows that there is need for each of the stakeholders in primary education to play his role.

Scientific Essay from the year 2018 in the subject Physics - Thermodynamics, , language: English, abstract: Vacuum tightness is critical for air-cooled condensers operating at low absolute pressure. Low vacuum is aimed for because vacuum dominates the power plant efficiency. To verify vacuum tightness usually a vacuum drop test is made with the system empty at normal atmospheric temperature and free of any liquids. This test is done before commissioning of the power unit and generally follows the recommendations of the Heat Exchanger Institute (HEI) as outlined in §6.1.1 of “Standards for Steam Jet Vacuum Systems”. However, over time of operation the power plant may develop leakages, which were not present at the time of the original drop test. This calls for a tightness test at operating conditions where pre-conditions for the standard vacuum drop test are not fulfilled. The report describes a vacuum drop test without interfering too much into normal power plant operation. The test is suitable for stationary operating conditions using standard operation readings. The assessment of leakage flow is based on the measured vacuum decay rate. It is shown that vacuum decay rates taken from tests before and after commissioning are different. Contractual fixing of acceptable vacuum decay rates should therefore be treated with care. Example graphs for easy evaluation are given.

Polemic Paper from the year 2018 in the subject Engineering - System Science, language: English, abstract: Condensing the capacity of air-cooled condensers is critical for proper functionality of steam cycles in power plants. Condensers operate in the low vacuum regime to promote the efficiency of power generation. Leakages enable ingress of ambient air into the steam cycle and thus impede condensation and power generation capacity. Therefore, vacuum tightness is essential for effective plant operation and must be verified by means of an acceptance test. The latest revision of the VGB acceptance test code for the air-cooled condenser (VGB-S-131) proposes a simple procedure to verify ample vacuum tightness and evacuation capacity. However, the following report will demonstrate that the informational value of test results in connection with the proposed procedure are to some extent questionable. They cannot stand for themselves but need to be accompanied by further information gathered from other tests, as for example thermal performance tests. This puts the usefulness of the test itself into question.

This e-book discusses and contributes to the further development of the theory of attractive quality, often referred to as the Kano model. The theory of attractive quality was introduced to the Western world through the 1984 paper entitled OC Attractive Quality and Must-Be QualityOCO by Professor Noriaki Kano and his colleagues (Kano et al., 1984). This e-book aims to encourage research on the theory of attractive quality to enter a new phase of development. It especially calls for empirical investigations into the use and application of the Kano model and theoretical development of the theory of attractive quality. This e-book spans a wide range of topics, from further extensions of the Kano methodology and new approaches to the classification of quality attributes, to lifecycles of quality attributes and the theory of attractive quality."

Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Didactics - Mathematics, grade: 6, Mountains of the Moon University, language: English, abstract: According to the National Assessment Program in Education (NAPE) report (2015), pupils’ proficiency (achievement) level in mathematics (numeracy) is low at primary six. Also teachers are essential to pupils’ achievement in mathematics; their characteristics such as commitment, qualification, teaching abilities are significant to pupils’ levels of achievement. The success or failure of any academic program depends largely on the teacher ability to deliver which is a function of teachers’ qualification, experience, and commitment. This study examined the teachers’ quality factors that are thought to affect pupils’ achievement in mathematics in primary six. The study used teachers and pupils, to obtain data, a total of 70 respondents were randomly selected from five primary schools of Kyondo sub-county, Kasese district. Basing on the findings of the study, it was revealed that first, the teachers’ qualification and experience are not significant to pupils’ level of achievement in mathematics. While teachers’ level of commitment is highly significant to the pupils’ level of achievement in mathematics. Therefore the low level of pupils’ achievement in mathematics at primary in Kyondo sub-county is mainly as a result of low levels of teacher commitment to classroom activities.

Higher Education Transitions written by Eva Kyndt and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-05-18 with Education categories.

In the current era where lifelong learning is brought to the fore, higher education can no longer be regarded as an isolated trajectory within one’s educational career as many students face substantial challenges in crafting their professional future. More specifically, the transition from school to higher education and continuing to the labour market are often a difficult hurdles for many students. Almost half of students do not succeed in the first year and often withdraw from education, students are faced with a variety of contexts and may choose to study in a different (international) context, and they are then confronted with structural barriers in finding a (high-quality) job, as evidenced by increasing levels of youth unemployment and underemployment. Higher Education Transitions aims to deepen our understanding of the transitions taking place when students enter, progress and leave higher education to enter the labour market. Drawing on an international team of contributors, this guide includes three conceptual and fifteen empirical studies which include a range of quantitative, qualitative, cross-sectional and longitudinal studies. Divided into three sections to reflect each important transition phase, topics include: transitions from secondary to higher education; transitions within higher education; transitions from higher education to the labour market. By considering transitions across different phases as a broad and interrelated process, this guide will be essential reading for higher education researchers, policy stakeholders and all those interested in the transitions into higher education and the labour market.

Toward Sustainable Agricultural Systems In The 21st Century written by National Research Council and has been published by National Academies Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-07-25 with Technology & Engineering categories.

In the last 20 years, there has been a remarkable emergence of innovations and technological advances that are generating promising changes and opportunities for sustainable agriculture, yet at the same time the agricultural sector worldwide faces numerous daunting challenges. Not only is the agricultural sector expected to produce adequate food, fiber, and feed, and contribute to biofuels to meet the needs of a rising global population, it is expected to do so under increasingly scarce natural resources and climate change. Growing awareness of the unintended impacts associated with some agricultural production practices has led to heightened societal expectations for improved environmental, community, labor, and animal welfare standards in agriculture. Toward Sustainable Agricultural Systems in the 21st Century assesses the scientific evidence for the strengths and weaknesses of different production, marketing, and policy approaches for improving and reducing the costs and unintended consequences of agricultural production. It discusses the principles underlying farming systems and practices that could improve the sustainability. It also explores how those lessons learned could be applied to agriculture in different regional and international settings, with an emphasis on sub-Saharan Africa. By focusing on a systems approach to improving the sustainability of U.S. agriculture, this book can have a profound impact on the development and implementation of sustainable farming systems. Toward Sustainable Agricultural Systems in the 21st Century serves as a valuable resource for policy makers, farmers, experts in food production and agribusiness, and federal regulatory agencies.
