African Human Rights Yearbook Volume 1 (2017) The three institutions making up the African regional human rights system, the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, decided to jointly publish the African Human Rights Yearbook, to spearhead studies on the promotion and protection of human rights, and to provide a forum for constructive engagement about the African human rights system with academics and other human rights commentators on the continent. This study is an analysis of elements that build the narrative strategies of Tahar Ben Jelloun's work. On formal and thematic levels, the narrative sequence and its interwoven strands, manifest a story in perpetual becoming, in constant dissolution and evolution. In fact, the story is an infinite quest. It is told and repeated in various manners, with no possibility to be exhausted. This continual quest of the story is nourished by a lack expressed by the needs of the post-colonial Maghrebian novel for compensating a world that was, but is not any more. However, this lack conditions the production of the story. The text nourishes itself from the lack it produces. We could say then that Ben Jelloun's novel is not the production of a story but the emphasized production becoming itself Story: it is not the story that is told but the story of its production. On the one hand, this study redefines Ben Jelloun's narrative strategies, on the other hand, it focuses on the importance of the perpetual becoming, in all the aspects. manifested in his work, reflecting the difficulties of its hybrid nature, the function of the symbolical writing, the construction of characters and their contribution to the fragility of the story, the revelation of generative forces of a form and its rupture. Although other novels are taken into account, the focus of this study is on central texts like L'ecrivain public, Moha le fou, Moha le sage, Harrouda, L'enfant de sable, La nuit sacree, La Reclusion solitaire, Les yeux baisses.

La thèse propose l'étude d'une oeuvre quasiment unique dans la littérature italienne moderne, par sa nature et son compromis entre langage poétique et genre romanesque narratif: La camera da letto, "roman en vers" d'Attilio Bertolucci (1911-2000), publié dans sa version définitive en 1988. L'oeuvre est analysée sous l'angle d'une problématique du temps, véritable motif récurrent et obsédant du poète depuis le début de sa production. Chaque niveau du discours de La camera da letto est ainsi marqué par l'incertitude liée au temps qui passe. Ainsi la sémantique, la structure narrative, la métrique et la morphosyntaxe, mais aussi les étapes de la composition, seront successivement étudiées. Nous envisageons de présenter chacun de ces niveaux en insistant sur la volonté du poète de remplacer le cours du temps objectif par une durée textuelle, patiemment et intimement construite suivant le rythme des durées intérieures. Aussi bien Bergson, Bachelard que Proust nous offrent des pistes de recherche fondamentales pour définir la spécificité de La camera da letto, comme tentative littéraire de modification, d'extension et de ralentissement du temps objectif, dans son rapport à l'écriture et sa capacité à dépasser les divisions des genres.

The aim of the book is to encourage discussion among experts on De ira, a text of philosophical nature, by reading it page by page, from a philosophical, philological, and literary perspective (a multidisciplinary choice which is the conditio sine qua non of all judicious research on Seneca). Moreover, the way in which each of these close readings is conducted adds an additional value: they each deal with a section of the text, presenting all the data necessary for its understanding. All together, they cover the whole work. Each of them is also an attempt at a global interpretation of the treatise, examined through the particular framing of the textual passage around which the “Lectures plurielles” are conceived. Around this “polyphonic” analysis of the text, we have built a structure that aims to offer the reader a complete reference work on all the issues of the De ira. Sources, manuscript tradition, images, political and philosophical concepts, posterity – in short, all the aspects that a traditional commentary of the text would not have allowed us to distinguish so clearly – find their place here. This book is therefore aimed at specialists as well as students or anyone interested in the thought of emotions in antiquity.
