Il samurai Dayu ormai vede davanti a sé solo la sconfitta e una morte onorevole, ma viene incaricato dal suo Signore di giocare un’ultima carta. Deve chiedere aiuto ad alleati potenti quanto infidi: i mercanti forestieri di Edo, che dispongono di navi e mercenari provenienti da tutto il mondo conosciuto. Alla loro guida, colei che è nota come Dama Tai-Pan, un’anziana mercantessa dagli occhi color del fulmine e dalla chioma nivea, regina delle rotte commerciali. La misteriosa straniera, come Dayu avrà modo di capire, è una vera leonessa dei mari, ancora piena di energia e di forza di volontà, sebbene porti sulle spalle il peso di tutti i rimpianti e le nostalgie che una vita lunga, intensa e tormentata le ha donato. La Dama domina tattiche e stratagemmi sconosciuti in Oriente e non intende cedere di un passo davanti all’assalto di Tokugawa. Il Fato stesso tratterrà il respiro davanti alla sfida tra il Feudatario ribelle e la Tai-Pan venuta dall’ovest, quando il Giappone e il mondo esterno incroceranno le lame. Marco Rubboli si dedica da decenni alle arti marziali storiche europee: scherma storica medievale e rinascimentale, pugilato greco, pancrazio, gladiatura, scherma di navaja spagnola, stage combat (che insegna presso l’Università privata BSMT). Istruttore al massimo livello con numerosi titoli agonistici nazionali, ha fondato la più grande realtà europea del settore, la Sala d’Arme A. Marozzo, e collabora stabilmente con l’Accademia Nazionale di Scherma, con numerose pubblicazioni in materia sia per ANS che per la casa editrice Il Cerchio. Il racconto di Chen si dispiega a poco a poco, come le bende che le fasciano i piedi, fino a che ogni traccia di dolore viene purificata. Anche quello di Lin, che troverà il coraggio di ribellarsi ai dettami imposti da una società ancora troppo ligia ai doveri famigliari e alle regole del passato e di recuperare la forza per diventare l’artefice del proprio futuro. Maena Delrio ha quarantadue anni, vive a Tortolì, un paese affacciato sul mare sulla costa orientale della Sardegna, ed è follemente innamorata della sua terra. Ha quattro figli, un compagno e un cane che sono il suo tesoro più grande. Ama leggere, scrivere, dipingere e correre. Il suo mantra è una frase di Sepúlveda, “vola solo chi osa farlo”.
