La historia de las sociedades cooperativas es una historia en constante evolución, o si se prefiere, una historia en constante construcción y adaptación.En pleno S.XXI y en el contexto actual de crisis global del mundo capitalista (una más de las crisis cíclicas que sobre el modelo capitalista se desarrollan cada cierto tiempo), tiene si cabe mayor sentido que nunca, la realización de un análisis del modelo cooperativista desde el punto de vista de los valores en los que se inspira y desde el de los principios que los guían, que vaya por delante es lo que he pretendido realizar en este trabajo.Las cooperativas, al margen de competir en el mercado y garantizar su supervivencia, tienen el reto añadido respecto del resto de sociedades mercantiles capitalistas de afrontar el reto de afianzar su identidad en un mundo globalizado como el actual, debiendo postularse como alternativa o cuando menos como realidades que desarrollan su objeto social con comportamientos y pautas de actuación radicalmente distintas a las desarrolladas por las sociedades capitalistas, debiendo quedar sustentadas éstos, en valores sustancialmente distintos a los que han guiado a la humanidad en general y a la sociedad española en particular a vivir la última crisis de las crisis económicas sufridas en los últimos tiempos.Las personas que viven el cooperativismo en su día a día han de entender y deben hacer lo posible por dar a entender que los valores y principios cooperativos son realidades indispensables para afianzar el modelo cooperativo, por lo que resulta importante que el reforzamiento ideológico del cooperativismo y de sus valores trasciendan al propio mundo cooperativo y sean inoculados en cada vez más áreas ajenas a éste.

Los retos que actualmente presenta el mundo del trabajo son también retos para las cooperativas, que no solo están presentes en la sociedad, sino que también son para la sociedad.
