The Politics Of Princely Entertainment written by Valeria De Lucca and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

""The Politics of Princely Entertainment explores the transformations in the politics of entertainment of the Italian aristocratic classes during the second half of the seventeenth century, at a time in which profound social and cultural shifts influenced the production and consumption of music in radical ways. The emergence of commercial theaters in the 1630s in Venice and the great appeal that opera began to have on a large and international audience required the aristocracy to take up a new role within the complex network of agents responsible for the production not only of opera but of music in general. The increasing competition between commercial opera theaters, ruling courts, aristocratic families and religious institutions and the consequent professionalization of roles that previously relied solely on patronage meant that singers, poets and composers acquired unprecedented negotiating power. This books explores these questions following the journeys and ventures of two of the most prominent patrons in seventeenth-century Italy, Prince Lorenzo Onofrio Colonna and his wife Maria Mancini. During the thirty years under exam, 1659-1689, the Colonna were the most influential and active agents in the musical life of Rome: they sponsored an unprecedented number of operas, serenatas, oratorios, public ceremonies and carnival parades while supporting the careers of the most prominent composers, librettists, musicians and singers of the time. Following Prince Colonna and his wife through their personal and institutional travels to Venice, Spain, as Viceroyalties of the Kingdom of Aragon, and later Naples, this book traces the journeys not only of scores and librettos, but also of the singers, composers and librettists whose art reached these far away corners of Europe, changing and transforming to serve diverse social and political purposes.""--

La Baronessa Palmiro E Il Maestro written by Emanuele Barletti and has been published by Ecrf this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-02-03 with Art categories.

This publication, realised in the occasion of the exposition held in Villa Bardini (Florence) between July 2016 and July 2017, includes two stories that took place in different times and spaces, but both related to the life and works of Pietro Annigoni. The first one is linked to the portrait of Stefania von Kories, an extraordinarily fascinating lady painted by Annigonni in Florence between 1958 and 1959. After its long trip across the world, the canvas is back on the hills of Florence, in the museum named after the great painter. The second story is developed around Palmiro Meacci, a figure yet unknown to the public at large. Humbly born man, he met Annigoni in 1969 and became his secretary. He was consequently introduced to the international scene, and he shared with the master twenty years of unique experiences. In this volume, together with critical texts and detailed studies about the lives of the protagonists, it is possible to find a gallery of paintings by Annigoni and rare photographs. Texts by Umberto Tombari, Michele Gremigni; Rossella Segreto Annigoni, Bruno Wang, Bob Safie, Emanuele Barletti, Gianmaria Scenini.

Music And The City written by Stefanie Beghein and has been published by Leuven University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-12-13 with History categories.

Although early modern urban musical life has been the object of investigation with several researchers, little is known about the ways in which musical cultures were integrated within their broader urban environments. Building upon recent trends within urban musicology, the authors of this volume aim to transcend descriptive overviews of institutions and actors involved with music within a given city. Instead, they consider the urban environment as the constitutive context for music making, and music as a significant aspect of urban society and identity. Through selected case studies and by focusing on three ‘musical circuits’—opera and theatre music, sacred music, and secular songs—this book contributes to a more effective understanding of music in late seventeenth- and eighteenth-century urban societies in the southern Netherlands and beyond. Musicological and historical research perspectives are fruitfully integrated, as well as insights from theatre scholarship and literary criticism. With attention to the musical life behind the traditional institutions, the circulation of repertoires, and musical cultures in peripheral urban environments or in cities ‘in decay’, Music and the City sheds new light on the societal dimension of music in urban life. Contributors Bruno Blondé (University of Antwerp), Timothy De Paepe (University of Antwerp), Rudolf Rasch (Utrecht University), Bruno Forment (Free University Brussels – Ghent University), Stefanie Beghein (University of Antwerp), Eugeen Schreurs (Artesis University College Antwerp, Royal Conservatory), Tanya Kevorkian (Millersville University), Anne-Madeleine Goulet (École française de Rome), Louis P.
