Science In The Kitchen And The Art Of Eating Well written by Pellegrino Artusi and has been published by University of Toronto Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-12-27 with Cooking categories.

First published in 1891, Pellegrino Artusi's La scienza in cucina e l'arte di mangier bene has come to be recognized as the most significant Italian cookbook of modern times. It was reprinted thirteen times and had sold more than 52,000 copies in the years before Artusi's death in 1910, with the number of recipes growing from 475 to 790. And while this figure has not changed, the book has consistently remained in print. Although Artusi was himself of the upper classes and it was doubtful he had ever touched a kitchen utensil or lit a fire under a pot, he wrote the book not for professional chefs, as was the nineteenth-century custom, but for middle-class family cooks: housewives and their domestic helpers. His tone is that of a friendly advisor – humorous and nonchalant. He indulges in witty anecdotes about many of the recipes, describing his experiences and the historical relevance of particular dishes. Artusi's masterpiece is not merely a popular cookbook; it is a landmark work in Italian culture. This English edition (first published by Marsilio Publishers in 1997) features a delightful introduction by Luigi Ballerini that traces the fascinating history of the book and explains its importance in the context of Italian history and politics. The illustrations are by the noted Italian artist Giuliano Della Casa.

Sweet Sicily written by Alessandra Dammone and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09 with Cooking categories.

Sweet, intense, and colorful is how Sicilian pastries will appear to the fortunate eyes seeing them for the first time. Those who have time to get to know them well, however, will also find it sensual, dramatic, and irreverent. Making pastries in Sicily is never a purely gastronomic issue; it may be a declaration of love, social ostentation of personal wealth, or even a way of mocking a defeated enemy. It is a gesture that involves countless intentions, coded and described in stories rooted in the mists of time. This anthology collects some of those stories and the most delicious Sicilian sweets, illustrated by poignant images and accompanied by some personal tips. The scents of childhood and cherished memories are bound together by one certainty: In Sicily, a sweet is never something that is just good to eat. It is a magical microcosm, an ancient tale, a legend that demands to be told.

The Sicilian prince, Don Fabrizio, hero of Lampedusa's great and only novel, is described as enormous in size, in intellect, and in sensuality. The book he inhabits shares his dimensions in its evocation of an aristocracy confronting democratic upheaval and the new force of nationalism. In the decades since its publication shortly after the author's death in 1957, The Leopard has come to be regarded as the twentieth century's greatest historical fiction. Introduction by David Gilmour; Translation by Archibald Colquhoun (Book Jacket Status: Not Jacketed)

An investigation into the gastronomic universe of Andrea Camilleri, expressed through his illustrious character: Inspector Montalbano, gluttonous and constantly affected by an immoderate appetite. For him, food is the main object of desire and must be conquered at all costs, but the secrets of the succulent dishes are guarded by others, the housemaid Adelina, Calogero, Enzo. The recipes are revealed in these tasty pages to be savored in silence and solitude, with a happy and clear mind, as when Montalbano sits down to taste his favorite dishes. The result is an anthology as inviting as a well laid table, with evocations of foods and dishes taken from Camilleri’s childhood memories in Sicily.
