Comment La Musique Est Devenue Romantique written by Emmanuel Reibel and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Art and music categories.

Culture And Society In France 1789 1848 written by F. W. J. Hemmings and has been published by A&C Black this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-09-28 with History categories.

This book, first published in 1987, complements the author's earlier volume on Culture and Society in France 1848-1898. It deals with the interaction of social history and cultural history, covering in succession the Revolutionary period, the Napoleonic Empire, the Restoration and the July Monarchy. The scope of the book embraces literature (the drama, poetry and the novel), the art of the Revolution and of Romanticism, and to a lesser extent music (including the opera), sculpture and architecture. Influential figures such as Jacques-Louis David, Stendhal, Berlioz, Victor Hugo and others have their place in the survey, together with others prominent in their time hut less well known today. Attention is drawn to phenomena such as the rise of the commercial theatre, and the assembling under Napoleon's aegis of the first public art gallery in Europe, the Musée du Louvre. The survey brings together all the disparate strands to present a coherent picture of the cultural life of France as it evolved during the sixty momentous years between the French Revolution and the upheaval of 1848.

Balzac And Music written by Jean-Pierre Barricelli and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-20 with Literary Criticism categories.

First published in 1990, this book was the first comprehensive study of Balzac’s relationship to music, blending past scholarship with new perspectives to formulate an inclusive account. It begins by examining the contacts and experiences that shaped the musical side of Balzac’s life. These left valuable and lasting impressions which often found their way into his writings, where he recorded a myriad of critical and musicological opinions — assessed primarily in relation to Gambara and Massimilla Doni. These discussions prepare the way for an analysis of Balzac two major musical persuasions: religious music and Beethoven. This book will be of interest to students of literature and music.

Giacomo Meyerbeer And Music Drama In Nineteenth Century Paris written by Mark Everist and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-04-28 with History categories.

Nineteenth-century Paris attracted foreign musicians like a magnet. The city boasted a range of theatres and of genres represented there, a wealth of libretti and source material for them, vocal, orchestral and choral resources, to say nothing of the set designs, scenery and costumes. All this contributed to an artistic environment that had musicians from Italian- and German-speaking states beating a path to the doors of the Académie Royale de Musique, Opéra-Comique, Théâtre Italien, Théâtre Royal de l'Odéon and Théâtre de la Renaissance. This book both tracks specific aspects of this culture, and examines stage music in Paris through the lens of one of its most important figures: Giacomo Meyerbeer. The early part of the book, which is organised chronologically, examines the institutional background to music drama in Paris in the nineteenth century, and introduces two of Meyerbeer's Italian operas that were of importance for his career in Paris. Meyerbeer's acculturation to Parisian theatrical mores is then examined, especially his moves from the Odéon and Opéra-Comique to the opera house where he eventually made his greatest impact - the Académie Royale de Musique; the shift from Opéra-Comique is then counterpointed by an examination of how an indigenous Parisian composer, Fromental Halévy, made exactly the same leap at more or less the same time. The book continues with the fates of other composers in Paris: Weber, Donizetti, Bellini and Wagner, but concludes with the final Parisian successes that Meyerbeer lived to see - his two opéras comiques.

Music In European Thought 1851 1912 written by Bojan Bujic and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1988 with Music categories.

This volume, in the series Cambridge Readings in the Literature of Music, is an anthology of original German, French and English writings from the period 1851-1912. Throughout the second half of the nineteenth century music continued to be a subject to which philosophers, psychologists, scientists and critics repeatedly addressed themselves. Some of the philosophical approaches followed the tradition of the German speculative philosophy of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Elsewhere the new 'scientific' climate of the nineteenth century left its mark on the work of scientists and psychologists interested in the impact of acoustical stimuli on the human mind or in the role of music and song in the prehistory of mankind.
