Stories of the missing offer profound insights into the tension between how political systems see us and how we see each other. The search for people who go missing as a result of war, political violence, genocide, or natural disaster reveals how forms of governance that objectify the person are challenged. Contemporary political systems treat persons instrumentally, as objects to be administered rather than as singular beings: the apparatus of government recognizes categories, not people. In contrast, relatives of the missing demand that authorities focus on a particular person: families and friends are looking for someone who to them is unique and irreplaceable. In Missing, Jenny Edkins highlights stories from a range of circumstances that shed light on this critical tension: the aftermath of World War II, when millions in Europe were displaced; the period following the fall of the World Trade Center towers in Manhattan in 2001 and the bombings in London in 2005; searches for military personnel missing in action; the thousands of political "disappearances" in Latin America; and in more quotidian circumstances where people walk out on their families and disappear of their own volition. When someone goes missing we often find that we didn't know them as well as we thought: there is a sense in which we are "missing" even to our nearest and dearest and even when we are present, not absent. In this thought-provoking book, Edkins investigates what this more profound "missingness" might mean in political terms.

Esteban Herrera Iranzo (Barranquilla, Colombia; 1950- ) Procedente de una familia de periodistas y abogados, "El Narrador de La Arenosa", como es conocido en el medio literario, sintió desde muy joven una gran afición por el estudio de la comprensión, interpretación y representación del humano en su reacción sentimental al mundo que lo rodea. Estudió Ciencias Jurídicas, y Dibujo y Pintura, en su país natal; lo cual le valió para desempeñarse en algunos cargos, como el de Director del Instituto Municipal de Cultura de Soledad, Departamento del Atlántico, y Profesor Catedrático de Diplomado en Derecho Notarial de la Universidad Simón Bolívar, en Barranquilla. Para ese tiempo escribió para el periódico "La Libertad", artículos relacionados con los cambios que la modernidad imprimía a la familia, y sobre diferentes aspectos de la vida social en la historia colombiana. Mas, fueron sus obras literarias "Olgo" y "San Juan y la Burra. El apóstol que llegó tarde", las que le situaron en el plano de los grandes escritores del país, por su extraordinaria narrativa y gran aporte al patrimonio cultural. Su ensayo "Neoliberalismo, Familia y Ruptura de la Pareja", ha servido por años como texto de consulta para profesionales que se especializan en Derecho de Familia colombiano. A comienzos del 2003, llegó a Miami con su esposa y un hijo menor. Allí realizó estudios de Arte Dramático, en "Prometeo", Miami Dade Community College. Algún tiempo después se estableció en Reading, Pensilvania, ciudad donde inicialmente escribió para el Periódico "La Voz", y la revista empresarial "Viwinco" y en la que ha escrito dos libros, "La Franciscana" (inédita) y "La Primate", obra ésta que hoy lanza al mundo.

Luis Gasulla señala que la matriz de eso que se conoce como «El relato» está allí mismo: en una bandera que pasó a ser fundamento de la hegemonía política de los Kirchner. Solo que junto al dinero derivado hacia Madres de Plaza de Mayo, empezaron a reproducirse también los escándalos. Sergio Schoklender, uno de los protagonistas de este libro, no hubiese podido transformarse en lo que llegó a ser sin la complicidad de un sistema conformado por los Poderes Ejecutivo, Legislativo y Judicial, que decidieron mirar hacia otro lado. Se archivaron denuncias, se silenciaron protestas y se continuaron subsidiando obras sin importar cómo se usaba el dinero. El discurso del «juicio y castigo» y la reescritura del pasado parecían servir para tapar cualquier desaguisado, pero la ruptura escandalosa entre Hebe de Bonafini y Sergio Schoklender indica que no es así. Y que las manchas en el pañuelo más significativo de la historia nacional solo pueden multiplicarse.
