Le imprese che utilizzano sostenibilità e temi sociali in modo strumentale corrono oggi due grossi rischi. Innanzitutto quello di essere escluse dal mercato a causa di regolamenti che si fanno sempre più severi e stringenti, e poi quello di essere accusate pubblicamente di socialwashing, ovvero di comportamenti socialmente positivi ma solo di facciata, in una colorata gamma di declinazioni: pinkwashing, rainbow washing, blackwashing, healthwashing, sportwashing, fino a quella silenziosa del greenhushing. Che cosa spinge allora un’organizzazione a esporsi a tali azzardi? Per essere accettata come attore sociale non potrebbe limitarsi a organizzare attività filantropiche, lanciare programmi di volontariato aziendale, realizzare iniziative di cause-related marketing? Tutte queste attività, per quanto importanti, non bastano più: alle imprese si chiede infatti di dimostrare una reale volontà di contribuire alla soluzione dei problemi della società. Per farlo devono interpretare le tendenze in atto, comprendere le esigenze delle persone, agire in modo onesto, coerente, trasparente. Solo così gli stakeholder, in particolare i consumatori, premieranno chi si sarà autenticamente impegnato per il bene comune oltre che per raggiungere i propri obiettivi aziendali. Il libro illustra con chiarezza, anche grazie a molti esempi, quali sono le principali declinazioni del socialwashing; ricorda che ci sono azioni e strumenti che possono mettere, almeno in parte, l’organizzazione al riparo da questo tipo di accusa; e propone una lettura nuova del rapporto tra l’organizzazione e i suoi stakeholder: se infatti siamo abituati a pensare a che cosa può fare l’impresa per coinvolgere i portatori di interessi, raramente riflettiamo sul ruolo che gli stakeholder possono avere per sollecitare l’impresa ad adottare comportamenti corretti e a raccontarli in modo trasparente.
