Cette thèse propose la théorie de la segmentation du marché du travail comme outil d'analyse pertinent dans une perspective dynamique. Le cadre d'analyse mis en place repose sur la redéfinition des catégories de marchés primaire et secondaire, mais également sur l'instauration d'une grille de lecture des politiques de gestion de l'emploi en termes de risques. Les causalités sous-jacentes à un mode de segmentation sont représentées grâce aux notions de sphères de l'emploi, de la finance et de la concurrence sur le marché des produits. L'analyse économétrique des facteurs de mise en oeuvre des politiques de gestion de l'emploi en France en 1998 vient étayer ce schéma. L'analyse statistique des modes de gestion en cours en France et en Grande-Bretagne depuis les années 1970 nous conduit a faire 1 'hypothèse de succession de deux modes de segmentation. La transformation des sphères d'influence macroéconomiques aurait eu pour conséquence le renouvellement de la structure du marché du travail.
