Über einen langen Zeitraum hinweg haben sich die Gelehrten Italiens mit der Norm einer italienischen Hochsprache auseinandergesetzt. Als Sieger unter mehreren konkurrierenden Modellen ging letztendlich die florentinische Dichtersprache des 14. Jahrhunderts hervor. In der Studie wird auf der Basis von Texten aus dem 13. bis 17. Jahrhundert beleuchtet, dass auch die norditalienischen Dialekte und Verkehrssprachen in den Reflexionen über die Sprachnorm häufig beschrieben, bewertet und teilweise sogar als Gegenmodell zum Toskanischen verteidigt werden.

Con la fundación de la Orden Militar de Santa María de Montesa, el 10 de junio de 1317, surge una nueva orden militar en el Reino de Valencia que asume los bienes de las órdenes del Temple y del Hospital y que en 1400 es ampliada con los de la Orden de San Jorge de Alfama, cuya cruz adopta como símbolo. Este volumen reúne un conjunto de estudios con el hilo conductor de la memoria montesiana: los escenarios en los que transcurrió su historia –castillos, palacios, iglesias, colegios...–, los objetos artísticos de los que se rodearon los caballeros de la Orden –retablos, frescos, sepulcros...–, los libros que publicaron y atesoraron, los documentos que redactaron y custodiaron, incluso las lenguas que hablaron... El libro es solo un pálido reflejo de algunas de las cuestiones que, en el estudio en torno a los bienes de la Orden de Montesa, quedan todavía por investigar y una incitación a acometer ese trabajo.

Este volumen titulado recoge las aportaciones de un conjunto de especialistas que con sus contribuciones analizan textos escritos por y sobre mujeres a lo largo de la historia. De este modo, abarcan un amplio repertorio de géneros y temas centrados siempre en el contexto italiano y tomando como referencia el Humanismo y su repercusión en la historia de la literatura transalpina. Por un lado, y dado que la producción relacionada con el género femenino ha sido silenciada y marginada en los estudios literarios, esta obra colectiva trata de demostrar y restituir el valor histórico y cultural que las escritoras y los personajes femeninos se merecen. Por otra parte, los estudios que forman este volumen buscan visibilizar la aportación de estos a la reconstrucción del Humanismo, así como las huellas de este periodo perceptibles en obras y escritoras pertenecientes a otras épocas. De la poesía renacentista escrita por mujeres a la narrativa más contemporánea, del teatro feminista del siglo XX a los tratados de farmacología y cosmética del siglo XVI, todos los ensayos aquí recogidos manifiestan un rigor y un interés extraordinarios.
