Literature Based Workshops For Language Arts written by Kathy Morrison and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Activity programs in education categories.

This book is intended for teachers who want to integrate high-quality children's literature into the language arts curriculum. The illustrated book provides a host of small-group workshops for children in kindergarten through second grade, planned around storybooks they love. Each workshop suggested in the book is geared to specific High/Scope elementary key experiences and includes a description of the activity, a materials list, instructions for teachers and students, follow-up activities, and modifications for children with special needs. Each of the five sets of workshops has a special focus: teddy bear books, alphabet books, and the storybooks "Monster Mama, ""The Napping House," and "Amelia Bedelia." A whole-group lesson at the beginning of each set of workshops introduces students to the books and activities in that section. The workshops themselves--each built around a particular storybook--provide many opportunities for children to make their own books, write in a variety of formats, graph and chart story information, create two- and three-dimensional artwork, write songs, and engage in many other active learning experiences. To assure literacy, we must end individual teacher and departmental deferments and muster all school and college personnel into an all-out bloodless, professional revolution against illiteracy. Now is the time for a thorough review of all educational objectives, strategies, and tactics for preparing and supporting our front line troops classroom teachers. Language Arts to Communication Arts: Reorganizing for Tomorrow's Literacy provides directions and sounds, "all hands to battle stations!" Robert and Lois Wolsch have been pioneers in bringing interpersonal communication, the speech arts, and phonological awareness into the teaching of language arts and curriculum development. Their recommendations fill the void in education which neglects to address speaking, listening, and sociolinguistic skills. Their previous books, The Poetic Language of Children, Poetic Composition Through The Grades, From Speaking to Writing to Reading, Literacy Assured, and Showing You Know and their workshops throughout the country, have had excellent reviews from experienced teachers, gallant administrators, enlightened parents, and professional organizations. The National Council of Teachers of English recommended Poetic Composition Through the Grades for all school libraries. Combining their four decades of teaching, supervision, and curriculum development, from K-graduate school, the Wolsch's have been speakers and workshop leaders championing the need for more up-to-date preparation of teachers in listening, the speech & media arts, sociolinguistics for reading and language arts across the curriculum. With their new four book Literacy Assured Series, they help to bring their insights into more homes, classrooms, consultations, committees, and curriculum councils. They identify today's concerns about children's language, particularly for children from oral cultures, provide workable solutions, and issue an invitation to all of us to discuss America's major educational issues.

Craft Class written by Christopher Kempf and has been published by JHU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-03-15 with Literary Criticism categories.

The hidden history of the creative writing workshop and the socioeconomic consequences of the craft labor metaphor. In a letter dated September 1, 1912, drama professor George Pierce Baker recommended the term "workshop" for an experimental course in playwriting he had been planning with former students at Harvard and Radcliffe. This was the first time that term, now ubiquitous, was used in the context of creative writing pedagogy. Today, the MFA (master of fine arts) industry is a booming one, with more than 200 programs and thousands of residencies and conferences for aspiring writers nationwide. Almost all of these offerings operate on the workshop model. In Craft Class, Christopher Kempf argues that the primary institutional form of creative writing studies, the workshop, has remained invisible before our scholarly eyes. While Baker and others marshaled craft toward economic critique, craft pedagogies consolidated the authority of elite educational institutions as the MFA industry grew. Transcoding professional-managerial soft skills—linguistic facility, social and emotional discernment, symbolic fluency—in the language of manual labor, the workshop nostalgically invokes practices that the university itself has rendered obsolete. The workshop poem or short story thus shares discursive space with the craft IPA or hand-loomed Pottery Barn rug—a space in which one economic practice rewrites itself in the language of another, just as right-wing corporatism continuously rewrites itself in the language of populism. Delineating an arc that extends from Boston's fin de siècle Society of Arts and Crafts through 1930s proletarian workshops to the pedagogies of Black Mountain College and the postwar MFA, Craft Class reveals how present-day creative writing restructures transhistorical questions of labor, education, and aesthetic and economic production. With the rise of the workshop in American culture, Kempf shows, manual and mental labor have been welded together like steel plates. What fissures does that weld seal shut? And on whose behalf does the poet punch in?
