Language testing plays a crucial role in assessing language proficiency in various fields, including education, employment, and immigration (Bachman & Palmer, 2010). These assessments serve as tools for evaluating an individual’s ability to use a language effectively, ensuring that they meet the necessary standards for communication in specific contexts. By providing measurable and reliable data, language testing informs decisions related to language instruction, curriculum design, and policymaking (McNamara, 2000)

In an increasingly interconnected world, the ability to integrate language learning with meaningful content instruction is more important than ever. Foundations and Innovations in CLIL: A Complete Guide for Educators offers a comprehensive and practical road map for educators seeking to implement or enhance Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) in their classrooms. This book begins by establishing a solid understanding of CLIL, including its origins, benefits, and core principles. From there, it guides readers through the theoretical foundations that support CLIL methodology, exploring key language acquisition theories and pedagogical frameworks. Each chapter blends academic insight with real-world applications, ensuring that educators can move from understanding to implementation with confidence. Through focused chapters, readers will explore task-based learning, the alignment of content and language objectives, subject-specific CLIL strategies, and the role of technology in enhancing CLIL practices. Special attention is given to assessment and evaluation methods that reflect the dual focus of language and content learning, as well as the development of teacher competences and professional support systems. Inclusive education and learner diversity are addressed in depth, highlighting strategies to ensure CLIL is accessible and equitable for all students. The book also introduces emerging trends, such as gamification and digital innovation, providing a forward-looking perspective on CLIL’s potential. Each chapter includes hands-on assessments—such as reflective journals, lesson planning tasks, project designs, and case study analyses—designed to deepen understanding and encourage active engagement. The final chapters invite educators to reflect on their own practice and envision future directions through CLIL project development and course-wide review activities. Whether you are new to CLIL or looking to innovate your current practice, Foundations and Innovations in CLIL serves as an essential resource, equipping educators at all levels with the knowledge, tools, and inspiration to create meaningful, integrated learning experiences for their students.

This Handbook, with 45 chapters written by the world’s leading scholars in second language acquisition (SLA) and language testing, dives into the important interface between SLA and language testing: shared ground where researchers seek to measure second language performance to better understand how people learn their second languages. The Handbook also reviews how to best measure and evaluate the second language (L2) learners’ personal characteristics, backgrounds, and learning contexts to better understand their L2 learning trajectories. Taking a transdisciplinary approach to research, the book builds upon recent theorizing and measurement principles from the fields of applied linguistics, cognitive science, psychology, psycholinguistics, psychometrics, educational measurement, and social psychology. The Handbook is divided into six key sections: (1) Assessment concepts for SLA researchers, (2) Building instruments for SLA research, (3) Measuring individual differences, (4) Measuring language development, (5) Testing specific populations, and (6) Measurement principles for SLA researchers.

Second language assessment is ubiquitous. It has found its way from education into questions about access to professions and migration. This volume focuses on the main debates and research advances in second language assessment in the last fifty years or so, showing the influence of linguistics, politics, philosophy, psychology, sociology, and psychometrics. There are four parts which, when taken together, address the principles and practices of second language assessment while considering its impact on society. Read separately, each part addresses a different aspect of the field. Part I deals with the conceptual foundations of second language assessment with chapters on the purposes of assessment, and standards and frameworks, as well as matters of scoring, quality assurance, and test validation. Part II addresses the theory and practice of assessing different second language skills including aspects like intercultural competence and fluency. Part III examines the challenges and opportunities of second language assessment in a range of contexts. In addition to chapters on second language assessment on a national scale, there are chapters on learning-oriented assessment, as well as the uses of second language assessment in the workplace and for migration. Part IV examines a selection of important issues in the field that deserve attention. These include the alignment of language examinations to external frameworks, the increasing use of technology to both deliver and score second language tests, the responsibilities associated with assessing test takers with special needs, the concept of 'voice' in second language assessment, and assessment literacy for teachers and other test and score users.

Throughout, there is an inclusion of contributions from non-English speaking and non-western parts of the world, providing truly global coverage. Furthermore, the authors have sought to integrate these voices fully into the whole, rather than as special cases or international perspectives in separate sections. The Encyclopedia is a necessary reference set for every university and college library in the world that serves a faculty or school of education, as well as being highly relevant to the fields of applied and socio-linguistics. The publication of this work charts the further deepening and broadening of the field of language and education since the publication of the first edition of the Encyclopedia in 1997 and the second edition in 2008.

Re Examining Language Testing written by Glenn Fulcher and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-06-12 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

Winner of the SAGE/ILTA Book Award 2016 Re-examining Language Testing explores ideas that form the foundations of language testing and assessment. The discussion is framed within the philosophical and social beliefs that have forged the practices endemic in language education and policy today. From historical and cultural perspectives, Glenn Fulcher considers the evolution of language assessment, and contrasting claims made about the nature of language and human communication, how we acquire knowledge of language abilities, and the ethics of test use. The book investigates why societies use tests, and the values that have driven changes in practice over time. The discussion is presented within an argument that an Enlightenment inspired view of human nature and advancement is most suited to a progressive, tolerant, and principled theory of language testing and validation. Covering key topics such as measurement, validity, accountability and values, Re-examining Language Testing provides a unique and innovative analysis of the ideas and social forces that shape the practice of language testing. It is an essential read for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students of Applied Linguistics and Education. Professionals working in language testing and language teachers will also find this book invaluable.

The World Health Organization defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”, and its constitution also asserts that health for all people is “dependent on the fullest co-operation of individuals and States”. The ongoing pandemic has highlighted the power of both healthy and unhealthy information, so while healthcare and public health services have depended upon timely and accurate data and continually updated knowledge, social media has shown how unhealthy misinformation can be spread and amplified, reinforcing existing prejudices, conspiracy theories and political biases. This book presents the proceedings of MedInfo 2021, the 18th World Congress of Medical and Health Informatics, held as a virtual event from 2-4 October 2021, with pre-recorded presentations for all accepted submissions. The theme of the conference was One World, One Health – Global Partnership for Digital Innovation and submissions were requested under 5 themes: information and knowledge management; quality, safety and outcomes; health data science; human, organizational and social aspects; and global health informatics. The Programme Committee received 352 submissions from 41 countries across all IMIA regions, and 147 full papers, 60 student papers and 79 posters were accepted for presentation after review and are included in these proceedings. Providing an overview of current work in the field over a wide range of disciplines, the book will be of interest to all those whose work involves some aspect of medical or health informatics.
