Le français revêt une grande diversité à travers le monde, héritage d’histoires très diverses. Et partout, il se trouve en contact avec d’autres langues, relevant de groupes linguistiques des plus divers. En Europe, il est au contact des langues régionales, des langues des confins et des langues déterritorialisées de l’immigration ; ailleurs, principalement en Amérique et en Afrique, il côtoie des langues autochtones sur les territoires d’expansion et de colonisation mais aussi d’autres langues européennes «exportées», notamment l’anglais. Or, ces contacts ne sont pas sans effet. La culture linguistique française et francophone n’a pas toujours eu une attitude très ouverte envers le contact linguistique. Mais, de façon récente, des mouvements inverses se sont fait jour, car l’hybridation linguistique, contrepartie d’une hybridation culturelle, en vient à constituer des symboles sociaux ou identitaires. Le français actuel connaît ainsi une large gamme d’effets de contacts linguistiques : cohabitation avec d’autres langues, emprunts aux langues en contact, créolisations, émergence de codes hybrides ou de langues mixtes. L’analyse des phénomènes à l’oeuvre, à travers des extraits de corpus oraux, d’exemples empruntés à la littérature, au cinéma, à la BD ou à des chansons, permet aux auteurs de s’interroger sur les évolutions actuelles et futures de la langue française dans cette francophonie en contact. Beaucoup des situations décrites sont en effet mouvantes du fait de l’actuelle globalisation, où les occasions de contact s’intensifient en lien à la mobilité accrue des populations. Cet ouvrage intéressera les enseignants et les apprenants de français (langue maternelle, seconde et étrangère), les étudiants de filières universitaires de linguistique et de sciences humaines, les décideurs en matière de politique linguistique, et le grand public intéressé par la francophonie.
