Sind ”ffentlich zug„ngliche Anlagen wie Kultureinrichtungen oder Verwaltungs- und Justizgeb„ude nicht zug„nglich, nutzbar und damit barrierefrei, bleiben Menschen mit Behinderungen die Ausbung ihrer Rechte sowie eine aktive Teilhabe am gesellschaftlichem Leben verwehrt. Das vorliegende Buch analysiert den Einfluss und die Auswirkungen der UN-Konvention auf die kommunale Politik und Verwaltung in Bezug auf die Herstellung barrierefreier ”ffentlich zug„nglicher Anlagen. Anhand von ausgew„hlten Beispielen wird der Handlungsbedarf auf kommunaler Ebene dargestellt, der als Folge der Ratifizierung gewertet werden kann und somit die Bedeutung der UN-Konvention hervorhebt. Als Ergebnis zeichnet sich die Konsequenz der UN-Konvention ber die Rechte von Menschen mit Behinderungen ab.

This book examines the phenomenon of urban fear – the increasing anxiety over crime and violence in Western cities despite their high safety – with a view to developing a comprehensive, critical, exploratory theory of fear, space, and urban planning that unravels the paradoxes of their mutual relations. By focusing especially on the southern European cities of Palermo and Lisbon, the book also aims to expand upon recent studies on urban geopolitics, enriching them from the perspective of ordinary, as opposed to global, cities. Readers will find enlightening analysis of the ways in which urban fear is (re)produced, including by misinformative discourses on security and fear and the political construction of otherness as a means of exclusion. The spatialization of fear, e.g., through fortification, privatization, and fragmentation, is explored, and the ways in which urban planning is informed by and has in turn been shaping urban fear are investigated. A concluding chapter considers divergent potential futures and makes a call for action. Policymakers and public managers around the world have become preoccupied with the question of how their goals can be achieved in a way that rebuilds public confidence in government. Though social scientists possess insightful theories and powerful methods for conducting empirical research on governance and public management, their work is too often fragmented and irrelevant to the specific tasks faced by legislators, administrators, and managers. Proposing a framework for research based on the premise that any particular governance arrangement is embedded in a wider social, fiscal, and political context, Laurence E. Lynn Jr., Carolyn J. In recent years, the German government has intentionally expanded the low-wage work sector in an effort to reduce exceptionally high levels of unemployment. As a result, the share of the German workforce employed in low-paying jobs now rivals that of the United States. Low Wage Work in Germany examines both the federal policies and changing economic conditions that have driven this increase in low-wage work. The new "mini-job" reflects the federal government's attempt to make certain low-paying jobs attractive to both employers and employees. Employers pay a low flat rate for benefits, and employees, who work a limited number of hours per week, are exempt from social security and tax contributions. Other factors, including slow economic growth, a declining collective bargaining system, and the influx of foreign workers, also contribute to the growing incidence of low-wage work. Yet while both Germany and the United States have large shares of low-wage workers, German workers receive health insurance, four weeks of paid vacation, and generous old age support—benefits most low-wage workers in the United States can only dream of. The German experience offers an important opportunity to explore difficult trade-offs between unemployment and low-wage work.
