„Der VokalJäger“ ist eine algorithmische Prozesskette zur automatisierten Klassifikation phonetischer Merkmale in monophthongischen Vokalen. Machine-Learning ermöglicht in diesem neuen Ansatz, Merkmalsunterschiede zwischen dialektalen Sprachproben und einer hochdeutschen Referenz, hier dem Kiel-Korpus, statistisch zu messen. In exemplarischer Anwendung werden historische und moderne Aufnahmen des Frankfurterischen aus dem „Lautdenkmal reichsdeutscher Mundarten“ und des Projekts „Regionalsprache.de (REDE)“ analysiert. Die Ergebnisse zeigen insbesondere das Verschwinden des charakteristischen dunklen velaren A: War es 1937 noch messbar vorhanden, so fehlt es im jüngeren Frankfurter Dialekt. Als Bezugspunkt wird der Frankfurter Stadtdialekt rekonstruiert – basierend auf bisher noch nicht historisch-phonologisch untersuchten Quellen aus dem Institut für Stadtgeschichte Frankfurt am Main. Vor allem die Aufzeichnungen Joseph Oppels (1815–1894) und Ludwig Rauhs (1892–1945) erlauben so die real-time Darstellung eines Lautwandels des Frankfurterischen über 200 Jahre anhand von 600 hier zum ersten Mal gedruckten Belegen. ---STIMMEN ZUM BUCH--- "Carsten Keil gelingt es durch die Verbindung von mathematisch-naturwissenschaftlichen und linguistisch-geisteswissenschaftlichen Möglichkeiten, Lautwandlungen im Frankfurter Stadtdialekt im Lauf der letzten 200 Jahre exakt aufzuzeigen. Von den umgebenden zentralhessischen Dialektverhältnissen stark abweichend, hat der Stadtdialekt eigene Wege beschritten, wozu insbesondere der Wandel des gedehnten a gehört. Mit dem VokalJäger, einer allgemein nutzbaren algorithmischen Prozesskette zur automatischen Merkmalsklassifikation, werden in Verbindung mit robuster Messphonetik und historischer Phonologie die Lautqualitäten exakt ermittelt und die daraus resultierenden Lautwandlungen in den sich verändernden Lautsystemen aufgezeigt.
