Fiona Ford was no stranger to endurance. In 2006 she won both the World Championship titles at ITU Triathlon and Aquathlon in the same week. She raced seven Ironman® distance events and was used to long and hard training routines and gruelling workout schedules. But nothing could have prepared her for the greatest challenge of her life. In June 2012 she was cycling on the London 2012 Olympic bike route when a car pulled out in front of her and hit her. With a broken clavicle and a broken pelvis and sacrum she was taken to hospital. The doctors told her she would never run again. From regularly taking steps up to the podium her biggest challenge became taking a single step from her hospital bed. Learning to walk again was the most difficult challenge she had ever endured. Three years after the life-changing accident, Fiona is back on her bike: On 14 June 2015 she competed in a triathlon for the first time again. She won her age group by 12 minutes. Experience Fiona's inspiring story of rehabilitation and recovery and her ultimate triumphant return to endurance sports. Find out how she made it back on track!

Triathlon It Hurts written by Gary Smith & Justin Roberts and has been published by Troubador Publishing Ltd this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-03-28 with Sports & Recreation categories.

Winner of the 2015 Running Awards, voted Best Book 2015. In October 2012, over 1000 people applied to take part in a university research study to assess how normal, recreationally active people cope with the demands of training for their first IRON distance triathlon a 3.8km swim, followed by 180km of cycling and finishing with the mere matter of a 42.2km marathon run. This book is a collection of the tales from the people within the team affectionately known as the HURTS team, an acronym for ‘Hertfordshire University Research Triathlon Study’. Their individual goal was to inspire others to dream big and to live out those dreams, whether it be a triathlon or not. However, as a cohort, they wished to raise awareness and funds to help find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a debilitating and fatal disorder. Their collective goal was to support Harrison’s Fund, set up in 2012 to support breakthrough research leading to positive interventions and ultimately a cure for muscular dystrophy worldwide. Triathlon – It HURTS is an inspiring story of what normal people can achieve when challenged. This book will appeal to those looking to learn more about the successes and harsh realities of training for a triathlon, as well as those who want an uplifting story of human achievement. “A wonderful book of inspiration from those who participate in the triathlon ... I found this book giving me hope” Jamie Chases Butterflies blog

15 hours and 39 minutes of swimming, biking and running. We were finally approaching the finish line. The crowd was on its feet, cheering and screaming for us to keep going.
