El adjetivo es una categoría gramatical y semántica que tiene características formales muy bien determinadas. El tipo de significado se expresa por medio de adjetivos. Existen muchos trabajos que se han hecho sobre el adjetivo desde el punto de vista sintáctico y semántico; citamos por ejemplo el trabajo de Simón Cesar (1979) que propone un análisis semántico sobre el falso problema de la posición del adjetivo y de Marta Lujan (1980) que hace un esquema sobre el análisis sintáctico y semántico del adjetivo desde la perspectiva generativista por un lado, y los más recientes, los estudios de Ignacio Bosque (1993), que hace una diferencia entre los adjetivos llamados calificativos con los relacionales y de Violeta Demonte (1999: 129?216) que propone un enfoque teórico para el análisis del adjetivo en general. El único trabajo que se ha hecho sobre el español de Guinea Ecuatorial es el de Antonio Quilis y Celia Fresnillo (1995:169?171). Analiza el adjetivo en algunos extractos de textos tanto periodísticos como literarios desde el punto de vista descriptivo. Al respecto, Antonio Quilis observa que “de manera general, en el español de Guinea Ecuatorial, frecuentemente los adjetivos se utilizan para enfatizar el superlativo… además de los procedimientos gramaticales, para dar expresividad a lo que se dice…”, pero faltan aun estudios profundos y suficientemente detallados y recientes sobre el tema.
