Surviving The Holocaust written by Ronald Berger and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-08-23 with History categories.

Surviving the Holocaust is a compelling sociological account of two brothers who survived the Holocaust in Nazi-occupied Poland. One brother, the author’s father, endured several concentration camps, including the infamous camp at Auschwitz, as well as a horrific winter death march; while the other brother, the author’s uncle, survived outside the camps by passing as a Catholic among anti-Semitic Poles, including a group of anti-Nazi Polish Partisans, eventually becoming an officer in the Soviet army. As an exemplary "theorized life history," Surviving the Holocaust applies concepts from life course theory to interpret the trajectories of the brothers’ lives, enhancing this approach with insights from agency-structure and collective memory theory. Challenging the conventional wisdom that survival was simply a matter of luck, it highlights the prewar experiences, agentive decision-making and risk-taking, and collective networks that helped the brothers elude the death grip of the Nazi regime. Surviving the Holocaust also shows how one family’s memory of the Holocaust is commingled with the memories of larger collectivities, including nations-states and their institutions, and how the memories of individual survivors are infused with collective symbolic meaning.

Ann Jamason is a living, breathing example of what can happen when a woman questions authority and rebels against society’s unspoken rules. With humor and reverence, Jamason describes her journey of personal empowerment touched by astounding magic and mystery from the ethereal, yet earthy, realm of the Divine Feminine. Jamason invites others, whether “spiritual” or not, into her world as she shares insights she gained while evolving from a woman squelched by rigid rules to one who now lives a fuller, freer, juicier life of intuition, imagination, and joy. Within stories of celebrations, visions, rituals, rites of passage, and key relationships, Jamason reveals the healing transformations that awakened in her as she set out on a quest for wholeness. To her surprise, she discovered that playing, belly-laughing, dancing, and creating are all essential elements of a sacred path. In this spiritual memoir, a dynamic, independent woman brings the reader along on her inner journey. Included with her personal story are questions that invite others to revisit significant moments in their own lives that helped them feel more connected to the heart and the whole that contains us all.

Stop People Pleasing written by Hailey Magee and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-05-14 with Psychology categories.

A viral life coach offers a practical, empathetic, and inspiring guide to breaking people-pleasing patterns that can harm our careers, relationships, physical, and psychic health. For most of Hailey Magee’s life, people-pleasing came so naturally to her that she didn’t even have a word for it. When somebody wanted something from her—even a stranger—she gave it, no matter how uncomfortable, exhausted, or resentful she felt inside. People-pleasing, she learned, was a coping mechanism that had kept her physically and emotionally safe in the past, but wreaked havoc on her life in the present—and she was committed to breaking the pattern once and for all. The solution that social media and self-help shelves gave her was to “Advocate for yourself! Speak up! Set boundaries!” But after years of ignoring her feelings and needs, Magee needed more than boundaries; she needed to reconnect with the “self” who was supposed to be doing the advocating. You can’t express yourself if you’re cut off from your feelings. You can’t fight for your needs if you don’t know what they are. And you can’t set boundaries with others until you believe you’re worthy of more than the bare minimum. Radically reconnecting with herself gave Magee the confidence and self-respect she needed to stand up for herself in her relationships. As she experienced a freedom she never thought possible, she became a certified life coach with the mission of helping others do the same. Stop People Pleasing explains how anyone can break the pattern by learning their own feelings, needs, values, and desires; ending cycles of enmeshment and codependency; overcoming guilt; developing physical and sexual agency; and more. It is a refreshingly nuanced guide, exploring fundamental questions like: -How can I tell when my genuine kindness veers into people-pleasing? -How can I set boundaries while maintaining my empathy and generosity? -When is it appropriate to compromise on my needs, and when is it not? Combining social science, psychology, and hands-on coaching exercises, Stop People Pleasing teaches you how to connect with your own feelings, needs, and dreams; courageously advocate for yourself in your relationships with friends, family, and colleagues; soothe yourself through the growing pains of healing; and dive headfirst into pleasure and play. With fresh insight, heartfelt empathy, and a keen personal understanding of the pitfalls of people-pleasing, Magee helps you say what you need and get what you deserve.

Winner of the 2014 Silver Nautilus Award This enhanced edition includes nine moving video portraits of people who found passion, purpose, and profound fulfillment in places that surprised even them. Anybody can have a Life Reimagined moment! Are you asking, “What's next?” You've finished one chapter of your life story and you have yet to write the next one. Many of us face these transitions at midlife, but they can happen at any point. It's a time full of enormous potential, and it defines a whole new phase of life. It's called Life Reimagined. Here is your map to guide you in this new life phase. You can use the powerful practices and insights—enhanced with online tools and exercises at AARP's LifeReimagined.org—to help you uncover your own special gifts, connect with people who can support you, and explore new directions. You'll be inspired by meeting ordinary people who have reimagined their lives in extraordinary ways. You'll also read the stories of pioneers of the Life Reimagined movement such as Jane Pauley, James Brown, and Emilio Estefan. One of the profound truths that underlies this book is the liberating notion that each of us is “an experiment of one,” free to find our own path in this new phase of our lives. No old rules, no outdated societal norms, no boundaries of convention or expectation. Each of the videos in the enhanced edition exemplifies the Life Reimagined manifesto of choice, curiosity, and courage. These are stories of ordinary people who hit a roadblock, looked around, saw something that spoke deeply to them, and boldly set off in a brand new direction. From a grandmother running her 73rd marathon, to a tattooed truck driver who teaches Zumba on the side, to a reluctant computer geek who had a “pizza epiphany,” they show that each of us has the freedom to choose our own way, in our own way, throughout all the years of our lives.
