L’uomo vive immerso in tre grandi misteri e circondato da tanti piccoli misteri. Egli non può sapere che cosa siano l’Universo, la Vita e la Morte; vede e sente queste tre cose in ogni secondo della esistenza, ma la sua mente non le può capire e, forse, nemmeno, per ora, può avvicinarsi ad esse per intuizione. Vi sono, poi, tanti piccoli misteri che noi, spesso, non curiamo di risolvere per tutta la vita, perché essi non hanno alcun fascino e sappiamo che altri li conoscono: chi di voi sa con precisione come funziona l’orologio che ha al polso? Ma vi sono degli altri misteri che hanno un fascino e che noi, subito, cerchiamo di risolvere sin da bambini: l’amore, per esempio. E ve ne sono degli altri ancora che hanno un fascino particolare, quasi pauroso, ma che, perciò, ancor più incatena, perché la gente crede, un po’ a torto un po’ a ragione, ch’essi siano più vicini all’Universo, alla Vita e alla Morte. Sono i misteri che vengono spiegati in questo libro; i misteri degli spiriti che non esistono e dei fenomeni che esistono; i misteri che si avvicinano a quelli della Vita e della Morte, non perché vi siano dei morti che agiscano, ma perché vi sono dei vivi che cercano di capire come si cren e si trasformi la materia viva. Il lettore troverà, in ogni pagina, citati nomi e nomi; di solito di persone molto importanti; sono i nomi di quelli che hanno assistito e testimoniato i fenomeni i quali, purtroppo, non possono essere riprodotti a volontà, per convincere gli eventuali scettici. E sono nomi grossi. Non si scandalizzi il lettore cattolico, credente ed osservante se, tra i fenomeni medianici, troverà citati dei miracoli di Santi. L’Autore si guarda bene dal comparare gli uni agli altri, nella loro essenza; egli li confronta soltanto nella loro manifestazione materiale e crede, anzi, di far cosa utile, perché dimostra che quei miracoli sui quali molti sorridono, sono proprio veri; tanto veri da essere possibili, nella loro estrinsecazione pratica, non solo ai Santi, ma agli stessi medium. L’Autore si illude che il libro sia abbastanza divertente e spera di aver conciliato gli scopi di divulgazione con quelli scientifici e di documentazione. Avverte, poi, il lettore pignolo che, di difetti, nel libro ce ne sono molti; ma che il lettore pignolo farà cosa utilissima se vorrà scrivere lui un altro libro del genere, in sintesi come questo. Avverte, infine, gli spiritisti che si arrabbieranno ed i metapsichisti che si interesseranno, ch’egli accetta sempre suggerimenti e consigli e gradisce i racconti di fenomeni avvenuti al lettore e seriamente provati; dichiara che è, pure, disposto a dare spiegazioni su problemi o fenomeni su cui vi siano dubbi!
