To all the brave and compassionate sons, daughters, husbands, and wives, there is help. Sophia has been a caregiver for over twenty years all over and has long-term experience in caring for dementia patients. Once you have been a caregiver, it is something that sticks with you for the rest of your life. There is no doubt once you meet that sweet man or woman, you then know you are ready to dedicate yourself to that family. Sophia is the first to admit that you must have patience and a heart to want to do it. It's very hard, but we all know the scripture: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13) This is how Sophia gets through her days as a caregiver; she knows God is with her every step of the way.

This book is dedicated to all of the families who have ever lost a loved one to Alzheimers and Dementia, I have spent over Twenty five years, giving care to these moms and dads, who have acquired this horrible disease . Id like to take you on my journey, and tell you about some of the experiences Ive dealt with, and some of the care Ive done, although some of these days, and nights were hard, and sometimes I felt like running, not to return, I hung in there because I truly felt that this is my calling in life. There were a lot of tears, fears, smiles and laughter, and no matter how sad, or how hard times got, we could always find a moment for love. I hope that you will embrace my story, and find some comfort as you read about all of the challenges I encountered, while giving care to those who could not care for themselves. May you find a little laughter, as I take you through what some of you may view as impossible to go through. But unless you truly have a heart to give this type of care, it could never be for you, it can be greatly overwhelming. But for me, it is therapy, truly therapy. And this is why there are folks like me, it is my passion, I love to care for others. I hope you enjoy, and find some comfort, smiles, and a little laughter, as you go through this journey with me. I do not wish to be disrespectful, nor offend anyone by writing these short stories of actual accounts that happened with some of the people I cared for. Im writing in hopes of you receiving some in site on what it takes to be a great caregiver, or find one. God bless.

This Book is the Companion Study Guide to go along with the book: Caregivers The Unsung Heroes of Our Day. Are you aware that there are an estimated 58 million disabled people and 63 million non-professional caregivers in the USA alone? The key to helping families who have who have been affected by a disability, a terminal or debilitating illness or chronic pain issues centers on those who often live in the shadows: the caregivers. As a caregiver to his disabled wife for over 26 of their 45 years of marriage and as a Pastor and Counselor for 41 years, Dr. Tom in Caregivers: The Unsung Heroes of Our Day captures their uplifting story and precious insights to help fellow caregivers gain a healthy approach for handling adversity. Looking through the eyes of one who lives on the frontline of adversity, Caregivers: the Unsung Heroes of Our Day addresses the pressing question of how do I handle adversity? Though no experience is exactly the same, the insights offered to caregivers bring hope and support to those who have been called to now care for a loved one and their families. At the outset of any adversity we find ourselves awakened to the hidden painful side of life with certain immediate and unwanted adverse effects that most often become overwhelming. Hopelessness arises with the words, "there is no cure" and from the silence that comes from one's scream of "Why God?" The compounding nature of such effects and the severity of the problems that arise then present a series of challenges that necessitate each caregiver to adjust, even before the long-term effects are firmly established. Here is where caregivers find themselves needing to understand and make five-non-negotiable adjustments that will be essential for their household. Further needed insight for married couples offers essential secrets to holding their marriage together. Yet, these adjustments do not necessarily produce permanent change, but they ultimately lead us to an acceptance that brings a personal transformation and causes change to occur, leading us to a meaningful mobilization toward God and others in need. It is here where we learn how to recognize God's fingerprints in a world where evil and God co-exist. All this and more are intended to help caregivers build a proper mindset for handling unwanted adversity, which finds them as key for the health and success of their family. Crises and their corresponding sufferings have a way of redirecting our thinking, our priorities, our values, goals, dreams and our source of strength in our relationships with God and people. They have a way of making the spiritual dimension of life so much more real to us in our daily lives. They direct us to look beyond our immediate circumstances and our human egos, and when in harmony with the Lord, to ask, "Lord, how can we join You and be of service to You this day? How can we take this adversity and turn it to be of help to others? How can we take what we have learned from Your comforting ways with us to comfort others?" It is in these moments that adversity begins its transforming ways, while the fingerprints of God, whether we recognize them or not, begin their life-altering changes to our character. The strength of human spirit, the transforming acceptance and the power from the powerless that draws out of us a spirit of compassion, mercy and kindness, bear evidence that the God whose delight finds expression with His mercy, further births passions that mobilize us to action. When courage and a sense of determination meet within a person in the face of adversity or a crisis, we depict what many refer to as heroes. Yet, show me those who demonstrate a strength of human spirit coupled with compassion, and I will show you the Unsung Heroes of Life. Here is where we find Caregivers: The Unsung Heroes of Our Day.

According to recent estimates, more than five million Americans suffer from dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, a number predicted to grow as Baby Boomers continue to age. Although staggering, these statistics only tell half of the story. As caregivers are thrust into situations they never could have predicted, the emotional, physical, and financial strains are enormous and cannot be overestimated. As the number of dementia patients continues to increase, so will the number of caregivers searching for answers and advice. Creating Joy and Meaning for the Dementia Patient offers a positive and innovative approach to dementia care that focuses on the caregiver’s power to create an atmosphere of joy and peace for both the patient and themselves, breathing fresh air into the topic of dementia care. As the disease progresses, the patient’s world grows smaller and smaller. Time for them no longer consists of weeks, days, or even hours. Eventually their cognitive life is reduced to small increments of time, mere moments of memory. By understanding this and seeing the world through the eyes of a sufferer, the caregiver is better able to create an environment of mutual joy and contentment. Based on ten years of caregiving experience, the techniques offered here honor the patient’s individuality, interests, and previous accomplishments. This approach is fresh and inspirational, and recounts a personal journey, filled with relatable experiences that readers will find uplifting and brimming with hope. It teaches family members and other caregivers how to stay connected with their loved one for as long as possible. But most importantly, it honors the unique individual that still resides deep inside every dementia patient by offering techniques enabling them to continue to experience the simple joys of everyday life.

Seeing The Unseen A Guide To Conscious Caregiving written by Felicia Stewart and has been published by Austin Macauley Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-08-18 with Self-Help categories.

Too often caregivers of children with challenging behaviours feel that the solution to the problem lies outside of them. Yet we all bring past wounding into our relationships. Drawing on the latest research from both scientific fields and healing modalities, Seeing the Unseen encourages caregivers to recognise how adverse experiences and trauma in childhood lives with them, resulting in whole body dysfunction—activating harmful stress responses that keep them stuck engaging in patterns of behaviour. Unless addressed, these self-sabotaging behaviours can significantly impact vulnerable children in their care. In extreme cases, this can lead to burnout or ‘blocked care’. In Seeing the Unseen, caregivers are invited to journey through ten steps that will forever change the lens with which they view themselves (and their loved ones), resulting in a more balanced and joyful home environment. While this workbook is written for caregivers of adopted or fostered children, it may appeal to broader audiences such as kinship providers, stepparents, life coaches, family therapists, and social workers.
